Listening to Music

I'm completely obsessed with this album right now.

It's ridiculously precious and silly at times, but also very personal and deep.

It has songs that are noisy and bizarre but sound like they could be pop hits even with their noisiness. But it's also very lush and pretty at times.

Dig deeper than the most popular song ("Digital Witness") - there's a lot more there. If you have Spotify or Rhapsody, go track by track and listen to the whole thing. It's crazy.

And Annie Clark (St. Vincent herself) is a pretty great guitarist, too...very much an expressionist painter of guitar sounds and riffs.

Not sure what you guys will think, but I really love it right now. We'll see if that lasts.

Interesting. It's bugging me that her voice reminds me of someone.  It's seems kinda retro, like some early 80's new wave, but a couple songs give me a late 50's vibe like a Patsy Cline song.  Something about the sound of the recording of a couple songs.  It's interesting tunes for sure.

here's a youtube link for the album.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcmfZvAnksA

Cool.  More new tunage to check out later while I'm working!  :D
Yeah I'm totally loving St. Vincent too.  She does some really wicked stuff with her production. Everything is kind of mutated.

Exactly - she and John Congleton come up with some demented sounds. it's fascinating to my ears.

A recent (and kind of cool) interview with John is here: http://www.sonicscoop.com/2014/05/01/producer-john-congleton-on-recording-st-vincent-and-the-wonderful-weirdness-of-texas/
