At the end, I'll take the Menatone!
In front of the amp all the 5 have their own character and none of them is a "bad" pedal...
At frst I've tested them only on the lead channel of the amp because I was searching for something to smooth a bit my sounds, but there was too much gain, too much treble or no treble at all or the BAD "horn" sound I hate... ;)
So my idea was to return them all....until I've placed the menatone in the EFX-Loop !!
I know, I know...an OD in the efx-loop is not a good thing..but this pedal with my amp works perfectly both on clean & lead channel !!
Here a little demo. Only one track, no post eq, just a bit of reverb... SM-57 center cone.
First part: guitar and amp
Second part : guitar - amp - menatone blue channel (efx-loop)
Third part: guitar - amp - menatone red channel (efx-loop)

Has anyone ever told you you're a top guitar player? Well they have now! :) :)
I honestly like the amp by itself the best.....then the red channel.....not wild about the blue channel.
Thanks for listenng !
Max, thanks a lot for your kind words !
FB, I like the red channel too ! It's more "soft" than the blue one. In the clip, the blue channel has the drive knob to zero, while the red channel has the gain at 4/10. So I use the last as booster....maybe I've to set the red's volume to lower levels... :)
Thanks again !

Definitely the red side!!! It definitely tames the harshness but retains the fire. I like them in this order: Red, bypssed, Blue.
sounds cool - what were the other four?
yeah, what where the other four... and what menatone is it?
The other 4 were:
Barber LTD
Ibanez TS-9
Boss - Blues driver II
DOD - YM 308
...in order of preference.. :)
The Menatone is the first release of "The fish factory". Here the pics..
...and inside.
The picture isn't clear but it's completely hand wired with no PCB... It mean nothing to me...price apart ! ;D
Now a question for you... What's wrong with the blue channel ? What sound strange ??? Thanks !!
Ciao !
Marco
nice!
not too surprised by that order of preference - suspect the barber was a close second.
someone should try out this one:

So the Howie sounds like 9 drive pedals stacked?!?! SWEETT!!! :D
It's either 12 Metal Zones stacked, or it doesn't make a sound! ;) :D ;D
if a Keeley modded Metal Zone falls in the woods, and nobody is there to hear it, does the tone still suck? :D
and, +1 Sheep.
I don't know which version of the LTD you (LWB) played, but it's a very good low gain OD. I'm not really up on the Fish Factory. That's one of the Menatones that I haven't read much about. But the "Howie" type pedals can be really good. Of course. ::) I had a Zendrive and while not my "thing" if I could afford to keep them all, I certainly would have kept it. It had it's own thing and it was VERY cool. Jazz players, look no further. Great solo OD pedal IMO, but I like things a little more aggressive. VERY COOL pedal though. The Menatone Howie is, by most counts, a great pedal as well.
Hi DTR,
the LTD I've tested is the V2 (black box with black knobs). It's a very soft OD pedal and would like to keep it too...
The fish factory is out of production. For what I know, at Menatone, they have splitted it in two pedals, the "Blue collar" (blue channel ) and the "Red snapper" (red channel) .

Marco,
I haven't tried the new V2 LTD, I have tried the first version, and an SR (Flat mids) and both were great pedals. They excel if you only want a little gain added to your clean, or the same for your OD channel, without changing the character of your amp. They don't have a bunch of gain and won't change a clean channel into a Marshall (ala the Direct Drive).
Yes, I'm very familiar with those two Menatone pedals and now that you say that, remember reading several years ago that the origin of them was the fish factory. Those are both good pedals.
One great thing about the standard Barber pedals is they are very inexpensive compared to other high end pedals. Another cool thing, if an LTD, LTD SR, or Direct Drive does almost everything you'd want, you can buy one with a mod board and it will do a WHOLE LOT more. Example, if you had a mod board on the V2 LTD you tried, you'd be able to further flatten out, OR add more mids, you'd be able to add more gain, have bass, treble, presence, and a few other controls. The Direct Drive with mod board is still one of the best pedals I've ever played.
yeah, the Howie pedal was only partly comedy... it's supposed to be his "dumble" pedal, I think.
have been curious about it for a while.
