I surely liked the second one. Very nice.
I loved them both, Sheep. Excellent ideas. I love that thick hairy tone on the first one. Good stuff!
I saw the first one yesterday, but I didn't have time to fire up my Juti box. I sure didn't want to listen on laptop speakers. Glad I waited.
thanks DM! the first one, at times, can make speakers of any quality sound bad!! ;) ;D
Liked both!
The second one sounds great!!
drier mix on the second one - link up top or here http://www.ironsheep.com/mp3/ironsheep/Media/tooewetworemix.mp3
Listening to overdrive. It almost sounds like you are gearing up- takes a minute of loose, then it goes all fucking insane, as if someone took off your shackles. The sound is awesome, and your licks are incredible. I love the unplanned, chaotic nature of it.
Yeah, second one is much more of a song. Like really good U2 when it hits that middle section.
thanks!
I thought the first one started feeling a little long even though it was "only" seven minutes or so.
the second one... I might keep working on a bit. I like the parts and stuff but today the layout isn't working for me.
I'm late on this but the first one gets a big thumbs up from me , I love long improvised jams as they go places that it wouldn't otherwise go if it was "written". Good stuff ;D Edit, that should be a smiley face not a laugh :)
thanks!
planning things out works best for me when the plan is "something in E with that riff... or related. 100 bpm". beyond that and everything starts to sound programmed. I suspect writing things that sound more natural would be easier if I actually played any of this after it was recorded (ie, performed it for an audience) or if there were vocals... or something like that.
so, the extended jam is the way to go for me... but the real problem is, like today, I set out to get a little jam recorded on this idea I've had - grooving to a triplet click thing. wrap it up and think "man, there was some worthwhile stuff in there! was it too long? 36 minutes?!?! crap!"
now, the length is one thing - understandably, no one but me is going to want to listen to 36 minutes of almost anything I played, so I think "I'll keep it for reference" - but then there's adding bass and drums and it's just... screw that! lol... delete!
Try jamming along to a click track for 10 minutes or so then cut the whole thing up into chunks that fit together to make 4 minutes and then add drums and bass to fit and see how that comes out. I love free jams that just happen as they are moments in time that are usually impossible to perform ever again, something very appealing to me about that, always has been....just play without rules etc.
I'll try something like that, thanks for the suggestion!
the thing that really gets in my way is the drum parts. editing piano roll sucks... trying to tap them in sucks... I don't know what I'm doing. I might have to get a cheap kit and get into it a bit... not so much for recording but to understand what's going on with the drums in general... hats in particular.
The thing to remember with drum programming is to be sure you don't hit more things at the same time than is physically possible if you were playing real drums. Remember you only have two hands and two feet :)
So, I kinda hate drum programming as it turns out. heh. I think I'll buy some more toontrack midi instead!
here's a couple more jams to make sure everyone gets totally sick of these jams!
the drums and bass on these aren't up to par - used 6/8 midi and didn't really jive with it... but anyways, a more leisurely 75/150 bpm and some less familiar scalar ideas (some errors due to this... but whatever)
http://www.ironsheep.com/mp3/ironsheep/Media/EJam12192014.mp3 <- shorter of the two, had problems getting this to work in 6/8... like the main riff though, so will probably revisit.
http://www.ironsheep.com/mp3/ironsheep/Media/CJam12192014.mp3 <- better of the two, imo. got an idea for the next jam worked out towards the end... heh.
