so it's now clear that, if I'm to do a CD, I actually have to do THREE.

flexi songs don't go with bogner songs and neither of them sit next to acoustic songs.

seriously though, I've got a playlist of flexi stuff that might actually work out... some tunes need to be longer, some are ok... volume levels are all over the place - so that will be difficult... I didn't save many of these old projects - redoing everything is a bit daunting :(

might be better off to start from scratch on new material and call all this old stuff "sketchbook" tunage - leave it as it is... but whatever, dunno.

all the bogner stuff will likely need to be redone completely. the acoustic stuff might be salvageable but those tracks generally need more structure/editing and cleaner takes.

I'll stick the (mostly)flexi playlist up for downloading/consultation soonish.

I'm kinda into this now though, I actually kinda dig some of these old tunes! lol.

Wanted to "number" the songs (or portions) to make it easier to deal with.

First comments (still lacking time thanks to work).  Everything will need to be reexamined after hearing all the selections, but here's a first song-by-song run through.
#1 - could benefit from some background crowd noise (Jon can help there - some crowd emphasis when you're doing the trills would be good too).  
#2 - ends kind of quick, but that may work.  This would be a good tune after a couple rocking songs to give the listener a rest.  Could definitely have vocals.
#3 - just isn't doing it for me... Heck, I couldn't even finish listening - that should say something!
#4 - is a keeper - a lot more character in this one, but it needs to be longer - great intro.  
#5, #6 and &7 - Wow - you've got the right idea about combining these - I think this would be a great "last song" but then I haven't heard your "that's all folks" tune yet.  Not sure if #6 or #7 should be the last part yet...  
#8 - is a nice "happy" song, good for the second song on a disc I think - needs to be longer though, the ending is too abrupt again.
#9 - Another keeper - livlier - put before song #2 or even the #5-6-7 trio.  
#10 - is an interesting duck, to me it sounds like one of those "bonus" songs you add to the end of the CD after a pause.  
#11 - is a really good intro, but it needs to explode at the end into something big (I'll see if you already have something similar).  
#12 - seems more like the verse area of a song - it's very nice but needs something, possibly more than one thing.  It would kill with the right vocals, but you'd still need to frame some other song parts around it.
#13 - is very nice as is, but I can't help but hear Peter Murphy-type vocals singing along - if that was the case, you'd need a chorus area
#14 - lots to like about the guitar phrasing and tone, but the song is forgettable (I blame the bland backing track ;-)
#15 - I get a hint of a Spanish flair for some reason - to work this one needs a short intro I think and a better ending
#16 - This would go next to the other "rocking" tunes in the middle of the album (before song #2) - needs an ending though
#17 - Way too many nice guitar phrases to lose this one (except for a couple of chromatic steps ;-) - it just needs some polishing on the ending
#18 - Very nice - I might put it after #8 as the third song on the disc
#19 - One of my favorites from this collection - could even be a first song or a last - it has all the sections and all done well
#20 - A good song to lead into the middle of the disc, right before the livliest songs
#21 - This reminds me of #12, great backing for the verse area of a song - it's needy IMO.

Overall a good start!  I can already kind of visualize a song order and hear a progression from intro-song, to happy songs, to build-up, to livlier songs, to rest & recover, to a longer, darker ending tune followed by a pause and a bonus tune.  A few songs need extending, #11 needs a killer, crushing guitar climax part and several need their "ends" refined (maybe even mixing one song to another to kill two birds with one stone?).  Ok, I'm off to get some work done before listening to some parts again (and sampling the other songs I have from you for that "explosion").

It's all nice stuff, would make a great, cohesive disc for spinning. All the tones are great! My favorite two from what you posted are "5202010jam" and "06242010btjam" (the darker tone on this one is awesome).

It's all nice stuff, would make a great, cohesive disc for spinning. All the tones are great! My favorite two from what you posted are "5202010jam" and "06242010btjam" (the darker tone on this one is awesome).  

Didn't you see his comment?  That one would have to go on CD 2 or 3 (depending on when he does his acoustic CD - LOL!).

Another good choice IMO for some vocals.  :)

While I was playing some of your jams my business partner walked in and said "Wow, who are you listening to?"  So you can take that as a sign that you need to get your music out there.  ;)

Been looping this list on the shuffle for the last couple days... after 15+ times through, I'm pretty sure some of these won't make the cut! heh.

I'll pass on that... unless I get a real crowd. don't want to fake that really - I'll settle for a take with less mistakes and if I can figure out how I got that sustain (hrm). but I like this one in concept - needs a better take.

yeah, needs to be re-recorded - mellow start, build to heavy portion, relax to mellow outro. no real structure to it though, it's just a long jam... dunno if that's going to work out.

yeah, this needs to be re-recorded -- longer and with some kind of thematic thing the two sides can go into in the middle.

maybe surprising.. but this is possibly my second or third favorite of the whole list (except maybe for the intro part) -- the outro lead just hits me for some reason.

I never figured out how to play any kind of lead on it - but the quasi-floyd rhythm sounded neat... probably a vote off the island here.

needs drums. I also need to learn how to play it right... the timing is weird - but cool. not sure on this one.

yeah, the lead needs to be better -- but I like the rhythm a ton. needs a rework and then evaluation.

lead tone is kinda meh but I like this one's format.

yeah -- it's new though. it's the best argument I have for starting the process of making a CD with new material from this point forward. most of the previous jams just aren't songs... these later ones have been moving more in that direction. that said, this one needs the guitars (particularly rhythm) redone... maybe lengthened out a bit too.

I'm thinking about trying to do some of the bogner stuff with the flexi and work in something heavier... this list plays too happy overall. I'm not that nice of a guy!! ;) :)

Good to hear that you haven't changed your mind (yet anyway ;D ).

You could take another approach, though it obviously would mean more work.  Of the list you've presented, there are at least two songs that are great openers (i.e., first songs for a CD) and two that are good last songs.  Maybe you can tastefully mix in some Bogner work and, eventually, end up with two discs worth of tunes.

As for the "darker tone" mentioned above, was the song in a different key maybe?

I don't think it needs to be constrained by equipment,
take a nod to  songs and mood flow.

but flexi/bogner/acoustic can all live in the same album.
so stick  that brnbr jam in there - for me :)

It probably shouldn't open as it would give the wrong idea of what's to follow, but  somewhere along
maybe from a laid back acoustic number, into brnbr, then into hi gain territory of the bogner - should work as a "story"
