yeah, that title from last night won't leave my head. had to make my own since I was so disappointed with what they called a barbed wire sandwich...
this one's open faced... yes sir, Open Faced Barbed Wire Sandwich! there's enough barbed wire left at the end to floss. muhaha.
it's not a great song, I know... but would a barbed wire sandwich be a great sandwich?
:D

It's kind of a departure for you... shows some range. I actually love this, I might go a lot further with the fx... make the tremolo guitars way washed out and spacey so they sit way back and sound ethereal instead of being so in-your-face*.
I love the surf guitar, washy and warm. And the heavy guitars have some really unique fuzz edge to them, sharp but soft.
*example, listen to the guitar on this:

yeah, as I've listened to this more I was thinking similar things... I could see the first part being a lot longer with softer guitar attack (improved tones too - that sigur ros tune sounds pretty amazing... don't think I can get in that zone but I can sure up the quality on my end a bit). I wasn't really thinking much about those parts this morning... was trying to build a somewhat relaxed yet still tense/wtf environment so the last part would have some impact when it started up.
thanks for the listen and comments!
(oh, heavy guitars are all machine)
Enjoyed listening to that. I wouldn't fear copywrite infringement from the Bad Cat Bones. LOL
BAD CAT!!! Git off my chair!!!! ;D ;D
Hehe... That was cool! Needs more of everything naturally. ;)
After the change to the bangin' part I kept waiting to hear some aggressive vocal kick in - heh. :D
yeah, I think Barbed Wire Sandwich, Slight Return is on the agenda.
thanks for listening!

fixed up the intro guitars a bit, bounced out the drums, replayed everything but the trem-slide (couldn't get a better take today), removed last part - added ebow part instead (naturally) and threw in some stuff to hint at a melody.
it's a little crowded now, christmas tree effect going on in spots... but, despite the almost easy listening vibe at times, I'm liking it more this way.
it's not really a barbed wire sandwich anymore... I'll have to make a new one! heh.
I like this version, but I miss the heavy at the end. put that back in and add a little "Song for Comus" vocal echo, right there, there, there, there.....there, there in the middle :D
The beginning of this new version is awesome.

Agreed, this is way better but I miss the cool fuzzy part. Maybe that's a different song.
hah, the vocal echoes! I love that shit... can't explain it! lol.
yeah, I need to figure out some way to get that back in... but I also want to redo it so it's not just all smack smack smack... maybe some kind of riff in there... some ring mod action or something crazy like that.
thanks!
(adding: I don't think it has to be a different song necessarily... but I didn't have the right mood to work with it today. I'll get on that tomorrow... see if I can work that back in and maybe go back to the beginning guitars for an outro afterwards -- it doesn't sound like it's over when it gets to the end without that part)
This is already easily has good as some of the stuff I've been listening to lately. Forget about time limits, just let it go as long as it wants and let it lead wherever it wants. I could definitely be taken along for a ride with this and, should it evolve into that heavier part so be it! :)
thanks! I don't really have a time limit in mind or anything... I'll be on it tomorrow because this what I do most days ;)
ok, leaving it like this for a while - still not thrilled with the sound of the ebow section... needs more power. unresolved. put the fuzz back on the end.

one of the machine demo tunes works well after this btw...

these two may wind up combined later...
Update- Sheep, listened to Barb Wire Sandwich v1. Kept waiting for the fuzz guitar to kick in. And then it did! That Machine is nasty. Dig that.
Sigur Rós - Andvari .... made it three minutes in before bailing. Not for me. I'll try it again if anyone has a doob they can lend me.
thanks for the listen - +1 on the machine, it's just the coolest thing.
I listened to both of the new links. I dig them. They'd make a good sandwich.
Now I did a search of past post to find out more about this Machine.
I wasn't here for the initial discussion and couldn't find much on it, so What is this Machine??
the machine is a zvex pedal (there's a good demo of it on YouTube by zvex)
the one I'm using is a clone made by The BertCave's own, charger!

fwiw, sheep's samples throughout this site show a broader range of what you can do the machine than what I've heard on youtube. If I was making it commercially, I'd use those.

I read those threads and listened to all of the clips. There is some tasty demos in there, I think 3, 4 & 5 definitely is barbed wire material. Hey, it did shred your finger, Sheep. Just throw 'em on the sandwich. ;D ;D
Nice job on the pedal, Charger. I had popped in a bunch in the past and new that you had been working a bunch on pedal clones and such.
