I've had the Vox AD100VT 2x12 combo now for about 3 months. As it is actually a 2 channel amp, I've recently switched how I use it. Both channels are set to the Marshall UK 70's amp with Marshall Vintage 30 4x12 cab coupled with my Digitech's Marshall Master Volume amp with a Tubescreamer in front of it. The only differences in the two channels are the volume and gain. Channel One is rythm, and channel two is lead. Channel two also has a tad of delay and higher mids.
With those settings, this rig sounds like a pure Marshall from the 80's. Thick, rich, and meaty as hell. And being a Vox....everything sounds better when the amp is cranked. It is very close to what you would hear if you were playing through a Boogie Stiletto Ace with a compression pedal in front. All things being said, that was the tone I have been trying to re-create. And I'm pretty damned close :)
And I paid approx $500 for the amp and pedal (Digitech RP500) combined. Amp was used, pedal was new. Amp now has a JJ 12AX7 in it...which made a nice difference in smoothing out the higher ends and tightening the bottoms.
This rig is my second fav of all rigs I've owned. Boogie Roadster being first. This rig second. Peavey JSX being third.
And I have $500 in it. That = Best Bang For Buck, hands down.
Oh yeah, there is also a knob on the back that you can turn that takes it from 1 watt to 100 watts output. So I can get screaming tones at bedroom volume. At 100 watts, it is just stupid, stupid loud.
