bogner riff of the day ;)

used the baritone tuned up to C (from B) - think it sounds a little better that way

Sounds mean and meaty!

(Still waiting for that CD from you! ;) )
heh, you could put a bunch of clips on a CD! ;)
Awesome playing and sounds !!!  :)

I want an official CD too !! :)

Ciao !

Nice riff...that could definitely do with some screaming vocals!
sounds good man!  That would be a good base for an FNJ!

+1
superior 2 is in the mail... I'll probably redo it when it gets here (woo)

Sorry I missed this when first posted but ummm, this sounds SICK. Keeping the clip for ref.

Are you still multi/dual miking or is this doubled (or quad) with single mic's? Need help, please enlighten!

hmm, I'm not sure.

most likely it was doubled (not quad) - recorded with two mics to a stereo file. then each panned out... so it ends up as one mic left, the other right.

but, I didn't save it and can't be sure.

that's the way I've been doing double tracking for a while, though.

Ok, that'll help. Actually, just using the clip as a guide will too. Thanks.  :)

I have so much more 'whoof' now (w/trying both a 57 and an e906) than I ever have. I whould've thought phasing would be the prob, but its not so far, its the mud. One mic shure was easier, no wonder its so popular. I'll keep trying.

that's pretty similar to what I'm using - sm57 and the 609 silver (I think.. the one that hangs over the cab).

the senn is unavoidably on axis and pretty close to the cone... and the sm is centerish and somewhat angled away from the cone (kinda wonky off-axis) but both are really close. (senn zip-tied to grill cloth).

I'll peel away the blankets and check the sm's position but I think that's what it was - haven't touched the setup in a long time.
and another thing - listening back to some clips prior to this one, I remembered why I thought this clip marked the point of "there it is".

I had stopped trying to move mics to get in this neighborhood of tone and forced myself to tweak the amp instead.

the uber has this ridiculous scoop from the presence and mid knobs... then putting back the juice with the bass knob was the eureka moment - this clip marks the discovery -> http://www.chargermusic.com/wh/yabbfiles/Attachments/tjam277.mp3

then this jam was the further tweaking.

Thanks again for the help! Don't leave just yet, lol! I guess you have the good 609 (black). I might have to try the 906 with the switch in that position now (one of them is "supposed" to be the older/black 609 setting, I had it neutral). I think I've got the mic's setup good though, its something else I'm missing, may have to tweak the amp settings as well - what worked before (more low end cranked) with purley the sm57 is too much with two mics (?). But other than the whoof, its close I think.

Hate putting a clip in your thread, and not for forum etiquette, but shit, any clips after sampling that 83check clip should be ashamed!

Here's the mic situation and problem clip...

Clip

Silly question but do brand spanking new speakers exhibit problems on the low end just as much as the high end (harshnss)? That could be the problem here in a nutshell. Its a new Eminence Small Block 25 (their version of a Heritage G12M Green Back but @ 55watts) with at best 3 hours use, lol! Thanks again, Sheep.

Thanks for that update. Gonna sample it now. I found another of yours as well, the "56samp" clip, its good, but the 83check shows the added experience!

"There it is" indeed! Envious.
yeah, that's about the same mic setup -- except for a e609 silver instead.

I blew out my Lead80 somehow... and have been using a twin t75 cab since, pretty happy with it. getting another L80 is on my todo list though.

can hear what you mean by whoof in there. hmm, it might be the speaker but dunno.

can you run it louder to flatten out the freq curve a bit? that might fix it.

or maybe try some thick foam cushions behind the cabs - you might be getting that from the back wall (?). or the closet could be acting like a giant bass drum? have a gramma pad? http://www.auralex.com/sound_isolation_gramma/sound_isolation_gramma.asp <- definitely a good addition if you don't have one.

edit: forgot to mention that, aside from the whoof, that sounds killer!

Thanks.

The amp is cranked already, any louder and I would need ear plugs!

Damn!!!!!!! Didn't think about the back wall  :-[ ...and I just did reposition those cabs after installing the new speaker this weekend, put them right up on it to make room for the second mic stand, lol. Haven''t had this woof in my other clips so thats gotta be it, I mean I really haven't touched a single dial on the amp in a long time and suddenly its there? Grrrrr, stupid, stupid.  >:(  ;D

I have the Celestion Elite80 they make for Egnater amps, same thing as the CL80 (supposedly) with just a slight tweak to the low end. GREAT, neutral sounding speaker, underrated!

I'm pretty sure my problem is solved now, thread can return to normal, the clip in the OP is worthy of the bump anyway. Thanks again.

heh, no problem.

it reminded me of a really annoying mid frequency buzzing I had a while back.

after tons of tweaks and switched out speakers/cabs/mics... I noticed the little built-in shelving thing behind the cab... and it's plywood backing.

the thing was just vibrating like a snare in there! lol.

LOL! I can see it now.....while playing: *what the fuck IS that?*
