I've had my 1x12 Avatar for months now, and it has a Celestion Greenback in it.  I was VERY close to selling the speaker and putting another speaker in the cab.  I was just not hearing the classic "greenback sound" I was after.  I moved my cabs around a few weeks ago and this weekend tried it one more time.  High Octane amp, gain at 12:00, volume all the way up.

MAGIC!  Absolutely NAILED the classic hard rock tones and with a bit of mid reduction the classic metal tones I was after.  For MONTHS this speaker has not had that "character" that I always attributed to greenbacks.  I guess that trying to break a speaker in with a 5 watt amps is NOT recommended.   ::)

I also did some back and forth swapping with the 1x12 Avatar with Eminence Governor.  It sounds very good as well.  Tighter, more defined, as expected.  Then I changed to the 4 ohm output and chained both of them together.  It was my second favorite tone and more versatile overall.

Yet another lesson in how long it takes to break in speakers before they sound good.
Cool man. Glad to hear you are liking the speaker.

Of course my EVM12L's are at least 20 years old at least, maybe I will get them broke in soon.
I don't think my High Octane could EVER break those things in!   :)

Believe me they is broke in, I originally played the 200 watt one with an 80 watt Boogie Mark IIC+, then a Boogie Mark 4, then the 300 watt one with a Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 200 watt/side power amp fronted with the Quad Preamp. I had 4 cabs with that amp and this speaker is one that I blew and EV replaced the cone and whatever else free. Can you imagine the volume I must have been playing at to blow one of 4 300 watt speakers. It was fun however.
WHAT?  ???    :o

COULD YOU SPEAK UP PLEASE???

:D
