Had a buddy of mine call me up the other day. Hell of a guitar player but he's playing drums in this rock band. His regular band is a country band in which he plays lead guitar.
The rock band sucks and he wants to play a joke on them. So ask what he needs. He says he needs a guy that will play ridiculously long solos and NOT follow the que to come back to the song. HE needs a guy that plays loud. Like too fucking loud.
I say, "I'm your man."
He says. "I know."
Hopefully I'll be able to get video of this moment. I think it will be hilarious.
I think he and I are gonna work out 5 songs. I don't know what they will be yet. I told him to bring me a list and I'll learn it. Just gimme a week to learn them and I'll just rip some totally cliche shit.....loads of finger tapping and whammy bar crap. I'll just over play the crap out of the solo.
And the end of the "audition" I'm just gonna pack my shit up and tell them they all suck and storm off.

then, as the guitar lead comes up... play an apeshit drum solo. ;)

You've got to somehow video the event, you know this.
Sheeps idea is clever! I'm thinking you should also somehow dupe them with your image. I dunno how exactly, but give them the impression in advance that you're this great rock player with sweet vintage rock gear, then show up with the most metal guitar you've got, dress the part as well, and THEN whip out all the Yngwie black leather 'tude', sweeping, divebombing, feedbacking, cheech and chong type shit you can pull off.
Video is a must.
I think Joe is gonna bill me as this just bad ass ripping dude that can get them in the clubs because I've been at it for a long time. Then I'm just gonna be over the top nice and complimentary. But then once we start playing I'm just gonna hog every inch of spot light I can.
Actually. I'll probably do the first song really straight. Play it by the book and give them the vibe that I'm so serious about the gig. But then on the second song....I'm a stretch out a LITTLE bit. on the solo. By the third song I'm just gonna be an asshole and milk all the time. My goal is to have someone come over and turn my amp off in disgust so that the band can finish the song without me.
THEN have the fight breakout with Joe on how to play guitar in the right context of the song only to rip a fucking drum solo during his solo! HAHAHAHAHA
This will be priceless.
Then pack up all my shit and by like, "You guys suck." Storm off in disgust leaving them to scratch their heads.
I hope we can pull this off soon.
All you're missing is some announcer to walk into the band afterwards and yell "You've been PUNKED!" :D
