Making Music

WTH, you'd think they'd be open like many retail chains. I know its "New Years Day", but theres an opportunity to cash in a little with many folks off work (and not currently passed out ;)), people still have those holiday gift cards cocked and loaded, theres a chance to make up a tiny bit of ground from the pathetic '08, etc. Oh well, tomorrow then...

Even Sam's Club was closed. Now that is an event.
I don't blame them at ALL!!  Working at a music shop myself, you get so few holidays that ya fanatically hold on to ANY holiday that you do get (it's not like banks and schools).  Fuck working on New Years!!  If my owner did that, I think I'd call in sick.  After all, I have football to watch!!

Since this is your first post, I'll cover the obligatory for ya.
^ I'm just a little impatient I guess, after seeing plenty of other places open, I got my hopes up I could go hit GC and relieve some constipation, was just disappointed they were closed - ironic thing is (maybe these are signs), I woke up today pretty sick, I'm never sick, haven't been in prolly over a decade, and now today its friggin' cold, humid and drizzly outside, almost egging me on to go out in that shit while under the weather...somethings gotta give, lol.

I hear ya bro.  ;)

How did you find the cave?

Thanks. I came in through the hidden, older cave entrance, was looking for Juno (hey, they never found the body ;D).

Ended up giving it a shot today and things worked out pretty well, glad I didn't get in yesterday afterall, lol...

I've been gassing for a decent acoustic, something mid-level I guess (if you guys consider $600-$800ish mid level, cause I do). I had already done some homework and had my mind set - I WAS gonna walk out of there with a Taylor 110, they're decent bang-for-buck guitars, especially for strumming duty only, no solo pieces, etc, which is what I need, basically for tracking and dropping in dense mixes kinda thing, and from what I read (and tried first hand), it doesn't really matter where they're manufactured, I couldn't tell the dif between a Cali or Tecate made Taylor. So anyway, on a whim I played a Martin DM that was priced a little more (didn't realize it was only more for that moment), but a few dollars one way or the other suddenly didn't seem to matter, its was an instant no brainer for me. Sometimes you can't go by word of mouth, names on headstocks, etc, go play 'em all, even if thats not the norm, you might get lucky, I did change my mind - so sue me, lol. This one particular guitar was just setup so well, zero dead spots, no buzzies, simple barr chords can be made just as easily at the 12th pos as the first, it sounded a bit more balanced then the best Taylor in that range, etc. Bottom line, it was easily the best acoustic they had there under $900 in all categories, it even played better than the gajillion dollar Martin & Taylor models (I tried damn near every one).

Maybe because its their first biz day of '09, maybe because they did indeed have a truck enroute with a shit pile of '09 model stuff coming and they wanted as much older stuff gone (thats what the guy said), but the best part of all for being there today instead of yesterday was the dude walking around the store with a fist full of new price slips and, sure as shit, he made his way to the acoustic room still with half-a-deck of cards worth I'd say in hand! I kidingly said "oh sweet, slashing prices? G'head ahead and place one on that Martin I set by the door." He did! Whew! Can't believe the luck. Signs? Hell ya, I see 'em. =)

Edit: Oh, the actual buy price I paid was $599+tax, hardshell case included. I know 600 hundred can go a long wayz in the used world if you take the time to look around, but hell, I don't think thats bad for a spanking new, US made Martin that is definitely superior to their DX series - puke, and again, this was a gem hidden in a poor, steamy pile.
