Do you make your computer hear what is being delivered through the line in louder?
I am running my Boss pedal direct. I download a friday night jam and import it to my Cool Edit Pro2. Sound levels are normal with the wav file. But....My direct guitar sound is WAY louder through my computer speakers than the FNJ being played through Cool Edit. At the same time, the monitor record level for my guitar is at -24....barely audible to Cool Edit. Yet it is loud as hell through the external computer speakers.
I am running Windows Vista. Is there a way to make it hear my line in better?
Start>Settings>Control Panel>Sounds And Audio devices>Advanced. move the sliders until it is all mixed. Also Go to Menu>options/Properties on the Mixer, and try the recording tick and slide those sliders too.
Thanks DB....but I'v already tried the system settings. My line in is maxed, which is why I think it is so loud through my computer speakers.
I did figure out that the sound cool edit was 'hearing' was actually being captured by the mic on my vid cam. I unplugged it, and the Daw is now hearing nothing.
So it was hearing through my mic. How do I make it hear my line in instead? That....is now the question. Cool Edit was the old version of Adobe Audition (I believe)....so if anybody has that, the way to change might be similar. I just can't find it.

Nothing muted on the System sound settings?
No...my computer is hearing and sounding LOUD. It's the DAW. It was hearing (until I unplugged it) my microphone. I need to switch what the DAW hears from 'microphone' to 'line in'. There's a spot in my system where I can tell it what to hear recording-wise. Line in is selected, and the volume is up. Nothing muted.
So I think it must be something maybe I'm missing in the DAW input selection. And that is what I cannot find.
