Making Music

My Sonar to 8.5. It needs XP with SP3 however and since I only have SP1 on and I am still using the Devils Own Version of XP (I do have a licensed copy of the OS with the Daw, still on the CD however) I did download SP 3 from the net the other day but I am a little paranoid as to whether to try putting the SP3 on and see what it does. My DAW is as rock solid as a Tape Deck, never a burp hiccup or dropout so I don't want to mess with success. I have the OS and Apps drive ghosted so I can go back. Maybe, maybe not.

By the way I got the cortisone and lydicaine shot in my worst so I am playing again.
Luckily, the upgrade from Sonar 8.5 from 8.3 was free in my case.  I, like you, had to install SP3 (from SP2) and I'm not sure if that is causing some hiccups on my system now.  8.5 is super slow and some options causes a crash.  Cakewalk support only suggested not to use the options that causes the crash.

I have abandoned 8.5 for now and working quite happily on 8.3.  The only problem I am experiencing is when I try to record the POD via USB for reamping in POD Farm.  It was working fine before I installed SP3 but installing 8.5 may have been the culprit too.  Still investigating my settings.

Good luck on your decision and your wrist too.
Thanks for the well wishes on my wrist. As for Sonar  8.5 and SP3 I am passing on it. My DAW is flawless in recording/mixing and any kind of reproduction/mastering/Audio CD burning etc. Since it ain't broke I ain't fixing it. I am on Sonar 6 still using the DAW I built in 03 or 04 a P4 3.2 gig with 2 gigs of RAM. I am maxed out as far as using the 64 bit audio engine, but it works fine even at maxed out CPU usage.
I'm at Sonar Producer v4 and my PC is already a dog.  Before I can upgrade any farther I'll need a new box.
If I was really into recording like I was when you met me back on the PodXT forums and the Hole, I would have a 64 bit superduper Intel whatever with Vista or Windows 7 64 bit, an Apogee Fire wire interface, and lots of other goodies. But ho hum, my music is from the 60's 70's era and no one gives a shit about it. I have probably a hundred minutes of music done to good demo quality. Ho hum no gives a shit.

So at my advanced age, I am doing the only thing worth doing with music, no doing it too much anymore.   .
