after giving it about a year off... I thought I'd see if I could get anything out of this pedal.
I still don't really like it but it's not as horrible as I remembered it. still, it's kinda buzzy.
probably last clip with it ;)
I agree it's not the greatest sound, especially considering your usual stuff. Though honestly, most people here would be more than thrilled to get a tone like that recorded.
But the fluidity and melody of the lead line kind of make up for any tonal deficiencies...
Sounds warm and thick. Playing has a nice Satch vibe to it.
I'm stuck with pedals till I figure out why my bogner is eating fuses. Don't want to have to ship it in for service... but might have to.
:\
thanks for the listens!
Sheep, it's been so long, and I'm getting so old, that I have to ask the same questions I asked 3 years ago. ;D
Is it "seeing eye mod" version, and if so which switch position are you using?
it's got a blue light on it with a lil switch... and a red one up top. I think it's a SEM, but don't remember.
I've tried all sorts of settings - even duplicating some from a photo of vai's... heh. it just doesn't sound like what I want... might be too little headroom? dunno.
If it sounds too buzzy maybe you shouldn't play in the key of bee? :D
I'm still not throwing it away though. ;)
Sheep, the lil switch (tm) is the seeing eye mod. One way, it's stock DS-1 diode clipping, and the other way uses LEDs for clipping. The LED mode is smoother, (still crunchy but not as crispy) LOUDER and has more headroom (because LEDs pass more voltage before clipping so at any given setting there is more volume and less actual clipping. Word of mouth is that Vai always uses the LED clipping side.
Which were you using? If you were using the LED side then yeah, it won't get any smoother or have more headroom, but if you were using the diode side, it will get smoother and have more headroom if you flip the switch.
I dunno what was wrong with that tone. It sounded good to me. And the playing was real good.
I was just replying to Sheeps comments on the pedal. I can't get it to DL at work for some reason. I'll check it out when I get home.
Sounds good to me....maybe I'm distracted by your awesome playing... :)
Ciao !
Marco
I think the pedal is ok, I just like this kind of distortion instead :)
(mix not so hot.. just an scratch pad tune)
Yeah for that style of music I would agree. Nice playing. good stuff.
