Just the 3 of them, no tricks or gimmicks and it still sounds better than anyone who has tried to do it since

Magic Fingers AND gimmicks:
[In response to being asked if his band does gimmicks]
Gimmicks, here we go again, gimmicks man, I'm tired of people saying we're.... gimmicks, what is this? The world is nothing but a big gimmick, isn't it? Wars, napalm bombs, all that, people getting burned up on tv and it's nothing but a stunt. Gimmick. Yes we do.
Well, you know about the song called "Pride and Joy" (see picture below :D ), maybe someone needs to write a song called "Tricks and Gimmicks," right? ;)

;D
serve up the lyrics Craig, see what we can do ;)
The player has to be the singer and not trying
And be Jimi H :)
it's just the plain guitar sound and excellent playing without delays and reverbs etc that makes Hendrix so good. Everybody else has to pile tons of delay on it to make up for their poor 'feel' for this song.
Dunno about that - that clip has reverb on it, even if it is due to being in a real hall.
delays - yeah that is a hide behind thing for sure.
fingers — Aug 23, 2010Dunno about that - that clip has reverb on it, even if it is due to being in a real hall.
Real Room space, yes, granted. All instruments sound better in a real room space as that's how we play them, but not really overblown with artificial verb and delay. I particularly hate the way Steve Vai plays this song...absolutely murders it.
Love this version from Little Wing from RAH especially the ending on G major. Experience Hendrix has been promising to release this show on video for ages but hope they get rid of the artsy stuff and just give us the pure concert video.
Cheers,

seems there's loads of video of this concert

Just listened to a vai version of it - yep murders it
at first I thought it was one of those spoofs where the guitar playing has been replaced by plausible terrible playing
I searched for a jeff beck version - can't find one.
I bet he would do a tasteful version
ive always preferred live hendrix over his studio stuff.
spanish castle magic LA Forum Solo!!!
When I was about 17 I bought an album called "Hendrix in the West" and it had this version of "Little Wing" on it, although the liner notes said that it was from Berkeley. I spent weeks trying to learn it, got it down pat but there's nothing like his bend up to a vibrato. He's been dead 40 years and still no-one can touch him. Jeff Beck is the only one who comes close.
Whenever I listen to Hendrix, I am dazed and amazed.
I still listen to him a lot when I am on the road. To me he is the quintessential 60's guitarist. Very inventive. He took it where no one else has gone.
Although Stevie Ray Vaughn did an very nice cover of that tune, I used to listen to that a whole bunch back in the day as well.
Max — Sep 07, 2010Jeff Beck is the only one who comes close.
Yep!! Jeff Beck is the only one from that day and age that can stand next to Hendrix as an equal.
A bit OT and not sure if I posted it before but here's a couple of video's I took of Beck:

Sorry to poop on this but I have just never been able to get into Jeff Becks style. I find it extremley boring. Yes ok, he is a good guitarist it's just that everything he plays bores the pants off me !
Mitch Mitchell. Fuck. It's not just Hendrix that made that trio so great.
Jon — Sep 08, 2010Sorry to poop on this but I have just never been able to get into Jeff Becks style. I find it extremley boring. Yes ok, he is a good guitarist it's just that everything he plays bores the pants off me !
Did you ever listen to Blow By Blow, There and Back, Truth, Or the Wired albums?
I have the album "There and Back", listened to it twice and it's never been out since.
Jon,
I've said this for years. To appreciate Beck, you have to SEE Beck play. Watch some of the videos where you can see him up close. Some of the stuff he does, when only heard on a CD you don't even know what he's doing or how he's doing it. Seeing him do some of the things he does is mind blowing. I've mentioned before the song where he plays one note and then plays 3,4,5 even 7 more notes in that phrase ALL by holding that note, and bending the vibrato arm to the next note. He does it quickly and doesn't miss one the whole song. It's amazing!!!! :o
I'll have to find that vid for you when I get time. To hear that song is not all that impressive. Once you see it that song takes on a whole new perspective even when you just hear the CD because now you know what he's doing.
Howie, I don't doubt his technical skill, and yes it is "amazing", but I just don't like the overal product. Just personal taste. When I listen to his music as "music" it just does nothing for me.
Oh well it is personal taste working here, no more arguments from me. Personally I can not see any redeeming qualities to most heavy metal. It is ugly, sounds ugly, and looks ugly. So I actually get why someone can not get with certain artists. Personal taste. I have it and so does everyone else.
Yep, I'm in total agreement with both Howie and Jon. I don't think I even have any Beck albums, his tunes just don't do anything for me, but when I watched the Live at the Ronnie whatever on cable, I was so blown away by some of his abilities that I had to watch it again (of course his new, young Austrailian bass player is pretty easy on the eyes so that helps! ;) ).

Jeff was pretty amazing at the Ronnie Stotts concert, I still liked his Blow By Blow and There and Back Albums better than that however.
You guys know that he is almost deaf don't you? So he is pretty amazing for some one who can't hear much of anything.
I recently bought Jeff's latest album "Emotion and Commotion" and I can't stop listening to it. I love it! It's brilliant! (in my humble opinion.) Highly recommended to you fellow Beckofiles.
IMO Beck is a more adventurous and expressive player than Hendrix
But Hendrix died early so who's to say.
