Ok.....

I bought my JVM Head; got it home and waited a week for my custom made cab to show - a 2 x 12 with a V30 and Greenback in it.

Here it is with the dudes Marshall head on it...

The problem is; is that as soon as I got it home; within one strum, it was just aweful.  Box and made the distortion channels buzz sawish.

I returned it at a $300 loss (fair enough - he put a bit of work in but then again I did almost everything re the build on his recommendation)

Anyway; I just bought a Mesa 2 x 12 Rectifier cab.  Cost me $100 more....

UN FUCKING BELEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVERYTHING I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fuck it's quiet around here these days.................. :D
Keep the amp, get a new room.  It sounds like anything you get is going to sound like ass in there.

+1
I'd also suggest that you stop posting to the Bertcave from there, also tell Claire I said I think she's hot and that your not.
Funny thing is that 've finally got it right.

I spent a couple of hours today just learning a few songs for band camp sunday (vertigo; smells like teen spirit, white wedding among others) and I'm addicted to this thing already.

I'm playing at TV levels; but it just oozes tone and the right sounds....  I can't wait to get it turned up and to also apply the hotlplate...

I don't know f you gus remeber but a few years back I had a Hughes and Kettner Tri amp that I had to sell simply because I was waiting 6 months for comms to come in (that weren't) and had a mortgage to pay.  Even THAT sounded fizzy and shitty at lower volumes compared to this thing - and I'm only running a 2x 12 cab here.....

So I think (well I don't have a choice - I'm not buying anything else) I've found my rig.  As long as it sounds this good at rehearsal / gigging levels I'll be estatic.  And yet; as we all know it can only sound better at louder voulmes.....

I love my work...... :D :D :D :D :D :D
Sorry I've not been around here to answer your questions but I think you're discovering what I did, that this amp is really something. The Hotplate is just a fine tuning device. When I play in the band situation I usually have the hotplate at -4db and really I may not need it at all. But if we get told it's too loud then I will use the Hotplate to reduce the volume, not the master on the amp. At home I definitely use it so I can explore the amp without pissing off the family. The possibilities of the 4 channels is endless: the clean channel is so different to the other channels and so different to any other Marshall before it circuitwise, I could spend all day just fiddling with it. Personally I like the crunch channel: classic Marshall raunch but roll back the guitar volume and a niece bright clean. I use OD1 green for leads, OD2 I have yet to come to terms with. The amount of gain available on the OD channels is more than I will ever need and realistically, more than 99% of most guitarists will ever need.
Howdy.

Yeah; now that I've got it right the thing is amazing.  Yet I still haven't heard it turned up; only quietly at home so I can't wait to see what pushing it and/or the hotplate adds.  Because I returned the cab to get the mesa cab; I've had to order an 8 Ohm plate; so  won't see it for a month >:( :'( >:(

All the questions I had re the hotplate was in the hope that it would clean up the mess the 'old' cab wasmaking.  Nothing was going to clean up that buzz box.

I mainly use OD 1 as well, the cleans are great; especially orange on the clean channel - the sort of smooth but not gritty break up of a clean I've always been looking for.

The 2 masters is brilliant.  Built in volume boost.   I'm usng OD2 deliberately scooped for the heaviest of heavy Marshall sounds for just a few songs such as Smells like teen spirit and V/H You really got me.

Lotsa fun.    It's taken 6 amps.   But I have FINALLY got my set up right   AND   I don't have to lug around a quaddie to acheive the sound(s) I want
