Making Music

A long time friend (20+ years) that manages the biggest local store (not GC) just called me, Gary Hoey will be there this sat for a clinic (and some Fender peddling, lol). Lots of acts come there and he almost always gets some one on one type time with them to discuss gear needs, stage setup/sounds, times and what not. Well, he usually has a personal friend or two come by for a meet with them when he knows they'd be interested...Hoey is an influence and one of my personal faves, he knew this and gave me a holla, damn skippy I'm going for a meeting, attend the clinic and maybe even grub and drinks afterwards, woot!

cool Man I saw Gary at a clinic back when he did the music for endless summer II, was a good clinic but packed house so didnt' get to meet him.
Very cool Derek! Yeah, Hoey always puts on a good clinic.  ;) He was down here a while back, doin, "LOW....RI.....DER!"  8-) He rocks but Tony McAlpine is my fave from the shredders arena.  :)

Lookin forward to it, never seen him in person, own nearly all his releases, faves are the Christmas discs and also Animal Instinct, the tone on that one is incredible.

I've seen so many guys in clinic, Gilbert, Moore, Lynch, Howe, Beach, etc, can't remember some, but the most memorable was Marty Friedman.

MacAlpline is killer, theres one player I've never met or seen in person, love his playing, but even more so, his writing, his shit sticks to your ribs, the harmonies, melodies, etc, I'll take him anyday over a Vai and the like.

cool Derek, tell him I said hi.  He doesn't know me so it should make for a fun awkward moment. lol j/k...

Anyone know what ever happened to Mark Bonilla? He wrote one my all time favorite instrumentals - Slaughter on Memory Lane.

LOL - will do.  ;)

I know that name (Bonilla), I think he did the tunes for a lame movie I caught on HBO a few years back, one of those saturday afternoon time killers, was a cheesy skateboard type flick, only reason I stopped while surfing by was the cool as hell guitar jam-tune for the slo mo montage bit that was playing...I watched til the end credits just to see who the hell it was...Mark Bonilla. (=

Thats cool, Derek.  Isn't he from Dayton?  (minutes from me...)

So tell him I said "hi" too.  LOL
Marc Bonilla has been playing guitar for California Transit Authority (ex-Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine's cool new band), and more recently, touring with some notable musicians (Keith Emerson).

I owned his solo record EE Ticket back in the day. It was pretty cool.

Great track (KTLA morning show back in the early 90s):
