ironsheep โ Aug 12, 2012I like the mix - the right side lead is a little loud but as it should be (it's the lead).
toms boom a little but sound cool - that works imo. bass and rhythm are discernible but not competing with the lead, so that works too.
only thing I would say on the mix would be to give the other instruments some bleed (or a little more, if they already have it) into the reverb of the lead so it sounds a bit less like it's in a different room (or less reverb on the lead).
lead tone is a little treble spike-y but that's a preference thing. it's not in ice pick territory, I just prefer somewhat smoother highs personally.
I've just listened to it on speakers myself now and you are spot on with the rhythm needing to appear in the same room space. The lead sound is a bit high on the treble content. I did try to tame that a bit but then the lower registers of the same sound then get very muddy.....would be nice to have split pickups so that you could adjust the treble content for each string :) also the strings are quite old and a few of the higher frets buzz a little which doesn't help. I recorded both guitars DI and then ran them through vintage amp works (AC30 model). It is very difficult to get a decent gritty sound from this vst, the top end always get very harsh if you push it too hard. I will record everything with a DI track from now on so I can revisit it in the future when I have access to better amps etc.
If you have a spare half hour I could send you the lead track for you to re-amp and send back to me, that would be an interesting experiment ?
