Hey Charger, what do you think of these?  Useful or gimmic?  (And, no, I don't need any - just curious!  :) )

Brilliant... depending on the price.  It's a simple idea that I'm surprised no one has come up with previously... the DB25 cable is ubiquitous to deliver 8-channel balanced audio (8x3=24), but it's surprising to me how brilliantly this can make a snake.  You wouldn't even need the center "snake" connector piece, because DB25 cables are cheap!  Just the ends.
I wonder if they'll start coming out with ends that have a variety of connectors...
Well, what can you possibly need?  They have male and female xlr, TRS... that about does it for snake cables.  I was looking for cheaper solutions... they have decent prices for the ends... you can get the middle cables (male-male DB25s) online for $6 or so... way less than the 30-$50 they want.
I know their target market is the larger studio types, but I was thinking about the home guy who might need something like six TRS and two XLR.  Something like that.
That's the cool part.  You can make your own.  DB25 is actually very easy to wire, you get the cable from someone like redco, wire up whatever you want, and as long as the pins line up, you are golden.  The other cool app is for the guys who don't need balanced cables--although not very common in a snake application... if you are just doing TS instead of TRS, you can get 16 channels on one DB25 snake.
Even easier, you can configure a custom cable on redco's site... I forgot about that... their custom snake cable app lets you specify specific ends.  Just make one end a DB25 female, and the other you can add as many different types and combos of balanced connectors as you want... up to 8.
Cool!

Here's Redco's website for everyone: http://www.redco.com/
