Well, here it is guys – my demo vid of the new Vox Valvetronix VTX150 Pro Neodymium amp plus VC12 floor-controller.

With a massive thank you to my very good friends, Mickey and the team at Chiswell Studios in St Albans who recorded and put the video together.

This is the first time I’ve left the confines and restrictions of my little ‘den’ at home and gone into a proper studio to make a video - I know a lot of you have the expertise and equipment to do this at home, but for me this is quite a big thing.

I’m really pleased with how its came out and (fingers
Great Rich, your home videos were good but this surpasses them by far
Thanks DBM - glad you liked the vid  :)
Nice video Rich.  Were you reading off a monitor or something ?  The reason I say that is I was trying to make eye contact but you kept looking over my left shoulder  ;D

well done.
Jon — Feb 08, 2012Nice video Rich.  Were you reading off a monitor or something ?  The reason I say that is I was trying to make eye contact but you kept looking over my left shoulder  ;D

well done.

Thanks Jon - actually it was all off the cuff - but there were lights & 2 cameras & being new to 'proper' studio recording (which you're a seasoned pro with) I was a bit unsure which one to look into.  Whilst Martyn was pointing, I couldn't see him as he was in silhouette behind the lights!  Just a bit strange compared to home recording.

BTW - had to do a few retakes on some bits - why is it that when you play stuff that you could do in your sleep at a gig/rehearsal/home, the MOMENT you get in front of a camera with people watching you, you go 'ga-ga' - your brain goes into pre-senile dementia mode and your fingers take on a (demented) mind of their own!

Or is it just me!  ;D
This is really well done Rich, especially impressive for off the cuff. :)

I wish the sound quality was better but think you are at the mercy of you tube there.

Now I need to go check out your other videos :)
Cool video. The green screen added a little to it but the best part is your guitar face... When you get going. Good stuff. It might be the mic technique but that amp sounded harsh to me. Is that using a el84 power amp or is it one as a phase splitter like the previous generation with the 12ax7?
Thanks guys.

EL84 power-tube in the VTX150 pro.  Mic was an industry standard Shure SM57

Could be the mic positioning which was dead centre - in hind-sight, off centre and a bit further away may have been better.  All a learning curve - but good fun!

Rich  :)
Good job Rich.  You've always done a good job on these demos, but yes, this is clearly a step up in production.  Nice stuff!

And, I'm with charger, always get a kick out of your guitar face.  Classic!
Finally had time to watch.  Good job indeed!  I really enjoyed the cleaner tones, but some of the overdriven stuff seemed a bit filtered and abrasive.  Of course, with other instruments you wouldn't have as much OD on I'm sure (and I only listened through my PC speakers so that could be part of it).  :)
