Rachel's not a mad fan of my rock & blues (she like's ABBA - what can I tell you! ::)) but she knows I enjoy playing, that I know my gear, and that I have a pretty good eye and ear for decent gear at a good price.

I've been given the OK to raid our savings, with a nice little start-up allowance, and picked up my first little bargain today! The 28 miles round trip took me nearly two and a half hours including chatting/trying out etc (traffic was murder!) but it was worth it.
Picked up a lovely little 6 yr old USA made (not yer Chinese muck! lol) Peavey Classic 30, in tweed, very good condition, with the footswitch (that doesn't come standard) that I found on 'Gumtree'. Sounds great, and its quieter & sweeter than the new ones, with a nicely played in Blue Marvel - not a bad little speaker.
These have really become very sought after little amps - great tone, compact & easy to carry (even the great Jon G has one 8-) - need I say more! ;D) & I reckon that I can make a tidy little profit on it - but I'm gonna play it for a little while myself before selling it on - just to make sure it's OK, you understand! ;D

Nice idea Rich ! With some shrewd purchase it could be a little business.
I've finally purchased the Menatone (the fish factory)...and already sold it !! 200 out, 250 in... :D :D
Then I've sold 2 Lwb Pickups and received 3 pickups to rewind...... Now I'm an happy owner of a new (and beautiful!!!!) Carl Martin "PlexyTone", purchased.. "for free".. :)

She knows! I've told her - because of the credit crunch now is the time to buy and build up stock when people need money, and to sell on when markets are better and people have money! She knows this is a longer term 'venture' and not one with instant returns.
Can I help it if I have to hold on to gear - and I've got to play it to ensure it stays in good working order! It's not that I enjoy it - in fact it's a chore, but it's just good business practice to protect our investment!

Hey Rich; have you ever checked out a site called the Stratosphere???? It's an ebay store site where he buys brand new fender parts; ie. guitars that have had the neck damaged and sells the rest of the guitar in parts. I've actually bought a lime green back cover and pickguard for a strat. Both came 'brand new' plastic on and all.....

Well, sad to see it go because it was a lovely little amp, but I've just sold the Peavey Classic 30 & footswitch. Allowing for my £5 petrol money to pick up the amp when I bought it, just made £125 clear profit.
Not a bad start to my little part-time venture. :) :)
Unfortunately, the jack-plug inputs on my Laney have gone, which is pretty poor on an 18 mth old amp. >:( So unless Laney will do something to help I'm looking at £40 to repair it. :( But at least that's covered now! :)

Get out your soldering pencil and do the deed yourself. It can be done easily.

It's not laziness - aside from not having the knowledge or skills to do this myself, I'm not sure it's that straightforward - the inputs may be connected to a PCB. My local store's amp tech can repair for £35 and for that I'd rather leave it to a professional and not risk wrecking my amp. I've also written to Laney for support as they appear to provide a 5 yr warranty - won't know until after New Years.
