here's a slightly better clip of the new axe 9.0 software.  the flubby overdrive is my fault, it's a fender amp being pushed hard to it isn't exactly a "tight" tone. wish you guys could hear it in the room... the tones are achieved via the volume and pickup knobs

The clean tones were some of the sweetest clean tones I have heard in a long time, and the slightly more gain sounds were also sterling, the overdrive when you turned the volume knob up was killer as well.

The playing was absolutely great.
Sounds good

But it is like a lot of Axe FX clips it is drenched in FX -  and it's a very nice reverb
So I am not sure if it is the FX which is suckering things -

It is clearly a great FX unit - makes things sound great.
But so can other FX processing units.

How about the some dry as a bone amp recordings.
That's the part that is missing for me and has never been clear from the clips I hear.

no reverb; just a multi-tap delay. i'll get a bone dry clip for you this week. finals are taking up most of my time
Man, I just got guitar wood (effects or no).  Can't wait to hear more.  Now NAIL THOSE FUCKING TESTS so we can hear more clips!!!   ;D
I thought the effects on that clip were tasteful. Not dripping wet, not particularly dry either. Just right, and the playing was pretty darn good. Nice touch.
I wasn't being negative about the fx or the clip it sounds good - very sparkly
I like effects

edit: - just listened again - this clip has a huge wash of reverb - short delays with long tails = reverb -  that is the impression of the effect
It suits the clip and sounds nice and huge.

I know that the Axe FX has excellent FX - but so do other units - and for the sort of money being asked
you could buy things like  UAD /TC electronics that integrate hardware  into a PC studio and can be used as plugs on tracks.
And they can beautify things as well.

So  taking the effects out of it as equally good stuff can be got on that cheaper and in a package that is more useful.
It is all about  the quality of the core amp sims themselves.

modellers have moved on since the pod and beyond L6  - single biggest thing has been  IR convolutions.
and if that is all  the Axe FX amp sims are about - then you can piece that together in other more flexible ways - ways you use real tube kit to record with as well.

The Axe FX is a great unit - just trying to work out if I am interested.

I get that,

I myself am not interested, all I use is a clean amp channel with on board verb with several different distortion stomps, and for one guitar (my SG) where I can't reach the volume control easily, I use a volume pedal. That is it for me, no compressors, gates, delays, (although some delays can be useful), chorus, flangers  or other effects. If I could find an adjustable sag control stomp, I would try one of those. I do use a Tonelab Tabletop for recording with tube stomps in front, and my GNX2 for one harmony patch, for one song.
it does naked amp tones fine, i'll get some clips up this weekend. my last final is tomorrow at 8am
Nice tone indeed. I would like to hear it again without that infinite reverb though.
sounds good.
