My original band Durham, as some of you know, broke up last year. Long story short, our singer/songwriter hated playing covers...and that was the only way to get a show around here.
About 4 months ago we re-banded with the simple intention of just writing and recording our music. No gigs, no bullshit that comes with gigs.
This is the same lineup we've had now for about 4 years, and we are just writing and recording. For those of you who have known me that long might remember when I joined this band. They had an EP of some simple-yet-catchy-radio-friendly- stuff. I posted a link to thier myspace on teh Watering Hole at the time and received a lot of positive feedback on the 'sound' of the band. They had recorded those tunes before I joined.
We then, about 2 years ago, recorded 'Carry Me Home'. Again...some of you might have that CD or might remember the posts I linked to the tunes from the Watering Hole. There was some ok stuff on that one...but I think we tried too hard to be musical, and didn't concentrate enough on just writing good songs.
Which brings us back to now. There were some good, simple, easy-to-listen-to songs that we wrote right after I joined the band. Kind of Acoustic driven, but with very lightly distortion as well. Very much in tune with the songs on the band's earlier EP that caught my attention. But we never recorded them. Until now.
So what we are doing is combining the songs from the EP with the new recordings of our 'other earlier songs', and releasing it as a new full CD. Appropriately called 'EPilogue'.
And as we needed to get the same kind of studio sound out of the new recordings that would match the (cough cough) 'lower' quality sound they had from the original EP, we intentionally tried to capture that same sound in the new stuff. So it would all mesh aurically on the same CD. For lack of a better term.
So here are 3 of the 5 new oldies. The myspace page is the guitarist I replaced 4 years ago. He has his own studio now, and I think he did a pretty good job of re-capturing the earlier 'ok' sound from the EP. I've already told him that the vocal mix needs to come up, and the bass needs to come down. He's working on that :)

Moving forward, we already have the 10 or 11 tunes written for a brand new CD. It is heavier, but more listener friendly, than 'Carry Me Home'. Just better songs. We have all of the drums recorded. and some of the bass. So it is in progress. We are using the same studio we did for Carry Me, so it's gonna sound GEWD. I'll keep yoos guys posted.
And for you newbies....if you want to hear a couple from 'Carry Me', check out the link and listen to Wrong, Carry Me Home, Stare, and Minute Man. BTW....Swoon is one of the originals from the EP. Still one of my Favs Brad has written.
