Hi all !
I've been asked to play a solo for an Italian band...I'm afraid and excited at the same time..
The amp is the Vox with the gain cranked and the fulltone in front of it. It's mic'ed using the SM57...nothing new.
Added chorus/rev/delay with a vst plugins.
They asked me to play something in Gilmour style, so this is the result and I would like to know your opinion please !!
I'm not sure about the take...it seems to me a cheap circa-Gilmour copy.. :-/
The BT is the raw version of the final track.
Cheers,
Marco
Speaking of tone, a bit more reverb for some more air and it is done. Also, a bit less of chorus. Just a bit.
And speaking of playing, do not worry, it IS good! ;)
:36 - :40 area... the bends might be a hair off (pitch).
re: gilmour-ness... you've got less effects and more notes per second than gilmour, heh. not bad things, in my book.
that said, great take!
Zonta, I agree with you...the reverb sounds kind of "close"..so I'll try to "open it" !
Ironsheep, thanks ! Yep, the bends are not in tune...damn it's very difficult to me recognise this fault while playing.
Both pitch and number of notes played problems are related (I think) to the fact I'm not playing relaxed...I'm very nervous !!
Thanks for your advices !!!

A couple of the bends are not "quite" there, almost though.
I would drop the chorus and go for a straight sound but in a much bigger room so that the solo sounded part of the track and not too up front.
On the other hand all still sounds good but the more you think about it the more angst you will feel over this...far better to just go for 3 or 4 random takes and then mix the best bits from each one to make a complete solo and leave it at that otherwise you will never be happy with it.
Thank you Jon !
In this take I've tryed to:
- play a bit less
- pay attention to the bends
- add a bit of reverb
- turn down a bit the chorus
Thanks for your patience !! :)

pitch thing definitely fixed - now you're a little low in the mix... but that probably doesn't matter at this point.
I wouldn't worry about playing more or less - the further you get out of your pocket, the more forced it's going to sound.
when someone says "gilmour"... they probably mean "play it with giant slow bends, emotion/feeling and gobs of pentatonic cliche's". ;)
That works. Don't forget they asked you to play a solo on it because they like your style, so stick with it, don't try to do something that doesn't sound like you .
Good job.
Thanks !
I've sent them the guitar track. I hope they'll like it..we'll see..
Anyway I've discovered that the Vox when cranked is not bad at all... and I'm waiting for comments from my neighbours too.. ;D
Thanks again !!

Much better! :)
I agree that you were low in the mix but it doesn't matter since they are gonna remix it.
Good tone, good playing Marco. 8-)
Thanks Zonta, glad you like it !! ;)
It's gone !! They accepted it !!
Now I'm curious the hear the final mix ! :)
Thanks again guys !!!
