For the cover band I want a 7 string. I am thinking of all the tunes that use the chords B, C and D that could really be improved upon by having that extra range available. Not to mention the C7FR I am looking at has a 26.5 inch scale, good for me giant hands. When I think of playing "American Band" using the low D chord, or "Rebel Yell" with the low B, I get all giggly inside, like little school girl.
My baritone (B to B) is a Schecter Scorpion and I love it! I did replace the stock pups with a Seth Lover and a custom-wound Dimebucker (this unusual combination was recommended after talking with Seymour himself). I don't like the wider necks on 7-strings and this worked out perfectly for me. :)
Oh yeah... Just remember to replace the nut with a shorter one and tighten that input jack down! (As you seem to have to do on all new Schecters.) ;)
My Schechter Jeff Loomis FR-7. This guitar is utterly wicked!! They also make a fixed bridge version.
Schechter makes awesome 7's.

I just love the sexy feel of the necks and heels on their guitars and basses.
At the top right is my Scorpion baritone.

My primary 5-string bass is a Schecter as well.

Damn Dearth, that Loomis 7 is sweet. Something to drool over to be sure.
I am not sure which 7 I am getting. I almost pulled the trigger on a white C-7FR last night, but I don't like the cheap Floyd they put on them. I want a Floyd equipt 7, but I'd rather have a non trem guitar than a cheap crap Floyd. Plus, the other advantage of the non trem is that I can drop the two low strings and make a drop tuned guitar.
Watching a few on eBay. AMS is out of stock on most of the models I want. AMS was a good option for my broke ass because I could have done the three payment on the card deal.
They do make a fixed bridge Loomis-7 and it is a little cheaper.
The Loomis with the Floyd comes with the real-deal Floyd.
People who have tried it likes the neck a little more than the C-7. A little slimmer overall. It also has some heft: ash body. And it really has some balls.
One thing I like to do on 7-strings is to use a heavier string on the B. I use a regular set of 10-46's from E-E and then drop a .060 on the B. Anything less feels a little loose.
Cool, I would likely get the Floyd one, but I have to set my sights a little lower price wise. I am watching a few on the bay, 7620 (Ibanez) and a few Schecters. I would prefer the Schecters but the couple of 7620's look good too.
On string guage, I would use .11-.60, unless the longer scale made it a little too tense. I use 11's on my standard tuned guitars and 12's on my lower tuned ones.
If ya could scoop a used RG1527, you'd be cooking with gas. Those are awesome Ibanez's. 7620 are decent (though Rocket would have argued against that; he go a Schechter C7 in white though I can't remember if he had a FR).
At this moment thinking most strongly about a C7 Hellraiser or Blackjack, there are a couple on eBay for decent enough prices. i am watching one RG7620, mainly because it is whie and I have ALWAYS loved the Edge trem. I have had a few 7620's they play like any other decent Ibanez, kinda spoils you, makes a lazy player.
I am sure the Schecters, if my C1 Classic is any indication, are better instruments in terms of wood and craftsmanship, but if I can get the white 7620, I may not be able to resist.
Going to do a litle research right now on the Blackjack C7 vs the Hellraiser.
Holy crap Dearth... how much???
Keep in mind I work at a Schecter dealer...
List is $1399ish with Floyd. Street is $999ish. I think I payed around $700ish + tax with employee discount.
I remember Rocket totally drooled over this one, but he couldn't wait for it and got a C7FR in white.
It is truly awesome for heavy music. Totally brutal and focused in sound.
massive gobs of drool here.... man you got a deal...
Bought a C7 Blackjack. I like the fact that it has a JB and a '59, which are the same pickups that my C1 Classic and my Agile PS4000 have. Also, neck thru. Would like to have gotten a Foyd, but it's either Edge, Schaller or original Floyd, or none. I can't use the cheap crap Floyd copies found on most all low-mid priced guitars these days. So since I could not afford a guitar with a good Floyd, I am embracing the advantages of no trem. After the holidays, and after I get my bass rig in order, I plan on grabbing a couple Hellraisers, they have the good Floyds.
I paid $355 for my Blackjack, they still sell for $699 at Musicians's Friend, so I feel pretty good about my purchase. When it arrives I post some thoughts on it.
Nice! Considering that an original Floyd Rose costs about as much as an entire cheap guitar, it's better to get one without a cheap "tone suck" attached to it.
