It's just an idea I've had while writing a post to Ironsheep in the FNJ where we were talking about our respective CD's .... :)
The idea is a BertCD where we ALL collaborate playing a set of 5 or 6 songs, publish them on iTunes and donate the proceeds (if any..) to a humanitarian organization of our choice.
We have everything to do it...maybe not too much time but it would not be impossible to do (maybe for Christmas ?)
Again, just an idea so feel free to send me to hell...with grace, please! :)
Sounds like a good idea to me, but someone would have to be in charge (producer) to determine who should play which part or which bit of each persons playing gets onto the final track. Also who writes the basic track, the framework if you like to which others add their own twists etc. (or we could each wrie a basic track and who likes what etc) not an esy project to manage by any means, especially if the aim is to prduce something that sounds prifessional then the producer has to be ruthless in the execution of "that's crap, do that again and again until it's up to snuff" etc.
A good idea and one that I would be interested in taking part of, but it's a lot of work for whoever pulls it all together as we are all remote and virtual (so to speak)
Give it a go and count me in....1,2,3,4 :)
Thanks Jon!
It's not easy due distances, commitments of work, family, etc.... and communication (in my case )
I was thinking to something like a real band. One start with an idea, a single riff or whatever and if the band likes it, all together elaborate it.
After all these years, we know what kind of playing and what kind of sounds we usually use so would not be a problem to agree on "who plays what".
the easiest thing would be to communicate via audio chat ... but for me it would be totally useless!
half an hour to write a quarter of a sentence, you do the math if I were to speak (not Italian)!
Sign me up!
(To be the humanitarian organization. ;) :D ;D )
DreamTheaterRules — Jul 12, 2013I'll play if Craig does!
You need to read the fine print. ;)
sounds fun to me.
but only if craig and dtr do the vocals over all instrumentals.

Ha. I have unrealized potential in many areas, but I doubt vocals is one of them! ;) :D ;D
A vocalist is a good idea so we can actually produce some "songs" instead of instrumentals (which generally bore the pants of me). I wonder if Bouke is still about ?
+1 for a vocalist!
A rough idea of a "song". Nothing special but could be a starting point....if you like it!
It's a bit long so is just a 2 min clip :)
that's pretty cool - maybe a little complex. might be easier to get going with the basic parameters first... tempo, chorus progression and central melody.
that might be a fun way to do an fnj... give the tempo, progression and a clip of a melody to use, abuse or reference. no bt.
Your right. It sounds complex (..more confused than complex IMHO) because of the errors and timing issues here and there. Sorry about that!
The main part is based on the guitar riff in the background. Then I've added a bass line (too much notes..) and a two fingers keyboard part just to give an idea about what I was thinking. The melody is missing because...I don't have one!!! :)
Info about the "song" idea
4/4
115 bpm
intro from 0:00 to 00:16
main riff from 00:16.01 to 00:33
bridge from 00:33.01 to 01:06
chorus from 01:07 to 1:37
Feel free to add, cut, copy, paste....and delete!! ;D
Here the same clip with only the guitar part.

I like that idea as you don't have to fit into somone else's groove, you go with yournown but keeping the cental theme and melody idea.
Marco, how did you channel John Entwhistle for the bass line? ;) Pretty cool song idea, I want to hear you finish it!!
And for the CD idea :)
Welllllll.... if anyone wants to get together in person I'd be into it.
I'll volunteer for production help, recording, playing of instruments, whatever people want.
I messed around with it a bit today... I can't seem to play that riff right after the opening chords correctly... argh.
wound up playing something else over that part which led to a "I'm changing it too much, this doesn't seem cool to do" sentiment.
so I gave up for today! heh.
if it's ok to re-riff, I'll give it more of a workout. just warning that I'm wanting to push it more grooving/funky in the rhythm than the chug/80's... so it would be a different feel... and that might not be the idea.
I will always vote for groove and feel over chug. I want that shit to feel like it's almost about to fall off the edge of the back of the beat, and yet to never slip...

Edit: full disclosure, I only listened to about ten seconds of the full mix--wasn't jibing with the drum groove over the intro, so I switched over to the guitar only version.
I love the intro and I think that you could easily expand that into a song. I imagine a flowing bass line behind that and drums coming in with a sort of emphasis groove. I don't think the riff that follows it fits... and the arpeggiated part is pretty 80s. Do you mind if I hack away at expanding the first part?
Great guitar sound btw.
here's some ideas about the ideas. mostly, this is the way I would play what you were playing... but that's all it is - not an assertion that this is the way it should be or something... just your ideas through my filter, as it were. whether this accomplishes anything or not... no idea... but in the absence of anything else... there's this, I guess.
(this was done with the univalve... so, not a tone exhibition ;))

No problems at all !

Wow thanks a lot, glad you like it! :)
It's just a poor attempt to play a bass line using the guitar...and playing it as a guitar part ;)
raw mix (as usual..) using the clip I lLIKE from Ironsheep's take. ;)
added a short keyboard melody on the chorus...it's the melody I was thinking
