Well, not exactly new, but a 2006 Gibson SG Standard in Heritage Cherry with original Gibson case. Few tears in the case, minor marks and small dings here and there but with almost no fret wear. For a 6 year old 'gigging' guitar its in very nice nick and a pretty good buy at £450.
Gave it a clean, restring & set-up, & I've been pretending to be Angus Young for the last two hours!! ;D
Nice Vman. Always thought the cherry was THE color for an SG. Nice score!
Slipping off the frets on the top E and some buzz/flat spots after 12th fret of the SG, & wanted the action down a touch. So, just invested £45 on a pro set-up including fret stoning/crowning. My goodness, what a difference - slip-off fixed, & plays like butter with a beautiful low action and no trace of buzz anywhere on the neck. Really did a lovely job - thank you Malcolm!
And it's got terrific tone and vibrancy! But it's soo darned light...I still can't get used to the lack of weight! I'm so used to my Gibson Les Paul Custom & the SG must be half its weight.
Nice guitar, always wanted a gibson sg myself just never got around to it. It's amazing the difference a pro setup makes. It's worthwhile having a pro setup on any guitar, even a guitar that's only worth £50 as it turns it into a very playable instrument.
I have had several SG's over the years but the very best one I ever owned I still have. It is a 2003 Faded SG with the ebony fretboard and half moon inlays. It stays in tune and is rock solid. It has the very best neck/fretboard I have ever owned in any guitar. I never had to do a single thing to it, other than set the intonation, and bridge height initially when I got it new, and tweak the truss rod once in awhile. It has stayed steady for the 10 years I have owned it.
Anyways Rich good luck with your new acquisition.
Thanks guys - really enjoying it. Also had a pro-set up done on my 1988 USA Tele & again, a great job on that too. :)
