Ok here is the bright version.

And I reveal a little secret: These are not miked! It is Peavey Delta Blues' effects send into sound card and cabinet emulation is done in the DAW. :)
So the chain is:
guitar>plimsoul>peavey(totally clean)>sound card
The guitar used was Jackson Phil Collen loaded with Seymour Duncans. Plimsoul was set to:
Level: 10 o'clock
Sustain: 12 o'clock
Hi Cut 10 o'clock
Second Stage: Full
The cabinet emulation vst plugin I used was this:

Well... I wish I could create this exact tone by miking. But it is not happening at the moment and I blame the 15'' speaker on the Peavey. It is never this balanced and mellow yet still biting. Also I blame my preamp. It never catches this much of the detail. I would like to blame the SM57 too but that doesn't make much sense since it is an industry standard! Ah, the neighbors also! For not letting my Peavey get some power tube saturation to translate into recording! :)
Anyway, this setup works at the moment and I am happy with it. Thumbs up for Acme Bar Gig btw. Great plugin. Here is their website:

And speaking of Plimsoul, it has been 2 weeks since I bought it and I love it more and more every day. Extremely beautiful and musical sounding pedal which does act like an amp. The touch responsiveness is amazing. If you are looking for a distortion pedal, go check it out. You'll know what I mean.

All Sounds good to me.
I think that's down to volume. The only time that I can get a really good mic'd tone is when I really crank the amp until the paint is peeling off the walls....but can't do that very often ! You need to push a lot of air to get a balanced tone, others will probably disagree but I don't care about that, volume is the key to that.

Yes Jon, majority of the people thinks the same way; the more volume, the better translation into the desk. I always thought that was a myth but I guess they are right. Actually it may depend on the mic as well but one thing that is certain is that the rule applies to the SM57 obviously. It DOES love high volumes.

I have a theory on that... I know tons of guys who HATE the Sm57. They make fun of the "it's an industry standard" remarks. I know why they do. It's a bit bright, and it is NOT a detailed mic, like a good condenser usually is. Since it is not real detailed, it likes cranked up volume better as it's lack of transparency is someone masked at higher volumes.
I think that if you don't record loud, you'd be far better off with a decent condenser. YMMV.
