"build up" experiment. other than the drums... this is all guitars. it's also relatively short, for a change. ;)

Pretty cool stuff.  I like.  What is that?  Ebow?  Has that Dazed And Confused kind of Bow thing.  really cool.  Definitely built right up to the abrupt end. LOL  Awesome

I waited until I could hear it on something decent.
thanks! yeah, ebow(s) -- it does end a bit abruptly, heh... haven't figured out what goes next :)
Yeah, I liked that! Sounds sinister! I'm impatient though, felt like it was a wee bit repetitive on the build up, like it would've been just as effective trimming a few seconds out (way prior to the 0:57 increasing build up though). And call me nuts, but I didn't mind being dumped quickly at the end...the whole thing put me in a horror movie scene, and that's often how they end...tension, tension, then bang, a release to silence with no death blow....for the moment anyway.  ;)

thanks! good call on repetition - that can be fixed, I think.
I think if people believe the build-up was just a little bit too long than it's probably about perfect!  :D

I like it and the build-up definitely wasn't too long for me - though I'm not sure where you go from that start!  LOL.  :)

Maybe a measure of silence than *BOOM!* some crushing drop-D madness?  ;D
that's what I was thinking... but can't decide if it would be cooler to try some kind of atmosphere for a while first - was trying things today but nothing stuck.

the build up isn't necessarily too long, it's just not varied enough. I can fix that with some re-recording (no loops, bounced drums).

That's what I was getting at - it's not a length thing but maybe just needs another chord slipped in somewhere early. I love where it's heading. :)
not sold on all of this (tones aren't ideal... but not horrible - haven't used the bogner in a while) but it's a little better (too much reverb on the acoustics... damn, just noticed, bah). mostly like the transition point from the first lead to the big thing kinda and dig the opeth-y ending... but not sure if I'll keep that, so just for fun right now. it's a bit too close to Folklore.

Just NO Cookie Monster, 'K?  ;)
This is beautiful all the way through. Is that ebow?  I could listen to entire albums like this...
aw, no cookie?!?! well, good thing I don't growl... er, sing! phew  ;D

thanks charger! I think this is almost there... the reverb in the beginning is now driving me insane (argh)... yes, ebows on the chorus-ish part and the bassoon/oboe/cello type thing in the beginning. the the main ebow in the chorus-ish part needs to be doubled (or re-done) with the same lead sound before it, I think - sounds kinda dull in comparison. then... the drums need some changes (kick disappeared a bit... last part is kinda random sounding for drum riffs). anyways, more than anyone wants to know I'm sure, heh!
I love it.  The playing is fantastic.  I dig the structure.  The transition at about 3:00 is Good stuff.  I didn't notice "too much reverb" on the acoustics.  I listened with headphones.  I'll give it another whirl through the monitors.  I think it's shipable.  Better than stuff I've spent money on.
thanks! they just sound a little too roomy to me... dunno. this is why I can't really leave the end the way it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=blysFi9CnFU#t=424 (from around the 7:00 mark, if that didn't work)
Yes, that did work, and, hey! I won't tell them. :P
Really cool!  The second clip really surprised me with what you added to the first...  The verb works for me.  And holy crap is that an awesome lead tone (and playing)  what did you use for that?
thanks! the second clip is the result of "hmm, E and F... wtf kind of progression can I do with that? er, actually, what key is this in??" lol. the first lead was '69 without much fuzz going into the uber without much gain (which, on the uber, is still a lot of gain, heh) - the last part was w/o the '69 and more gain from the amp. was using the strat with the 36th anniv. pickup in the bridge... kind of surprised how it well it worked. might keep it in there after all.

two votes for the verb, eh? I guess I'll leave it for a while, see if it grows on me. ;)
oh damn...  <trots off to find about the 69/>
another mix if interested - mostly the same as version 2, likely the last on this for the time being so linking to the "finished" one -- smoothed out the levels a bit and some other stuff (changed the reverb ;))

still like some aspects of the other mix... lost some of the bite in this mix but it has the lower end weight the other lacked.

GREAT! Love the different feels, took me on a little adventure! Great playing on the solo as well. Enjoyed chilling to that while eating lunch. 8-)
thanks!
It's Great, Sheep. I love it. But,  ;D  I miss the silence, The long pause.  You drummed it up.  There was something that I dug about the "statement"  The pause  and then the re-Statement.  I had to listen to the third one a second time knowing that it was missing.  I hadn't even listened back to the second one.  Just knew it was gone. :'(

How about a big Sheep cookie voice in the pause? :D

Whatever you decide for this stuff is cool.  It's all really great.  Just letting you know what I like about what you are doing.  There is no dislike.
heh - no worries, I totally appreciate the comments! I'll try it without anything in there again, or something different - the drum fill does kinda ruin the surprise. thanks!
Love it!!! BRAVO ! ;)
thanks!
Which album is this song going to be on?
it'll be on the follow up to Barbed Wire Sandwiches. ;)
