I must be getting old - that just sounded like a horrible noise to me ! :( ::)
His mix was a bit off with his guitar too far back, but the tones were nice! I can only take that genre in small doses because it does end up sounding just like noise (WAY too much bass drum for example). The ears just want to turn off after a while.
A lot more impressive to me to watch than to listen to. It's always impressive to see the economy of movement in the fingers of these ripping metal dudes. I get kick drum fatigue after 450 kick samples hit at exactly the same velocity and volume.
I respect the skill that takes, and guys like that do make it look easy, but, he lost me a couple of minutes in because it simply doesn't go anywhere, just variations of rhythmic chugging. I know that's the style, but I needs to hear some melody, at least something with more freedom and expression I guess, because that was just so exacting that yeah, it simply numbs me after a bit.
I'll say this, that video on the whole is impressive because it looks like it took some time to put together with all the angles and what not.

I'm with you on the drum kicks.
This track needs vocals of course to finish it off. I wouldn't say it was an instrumental by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like some of the riffs that he has going on, particularly in the middle.
