Been chatting to a really nice fella who's got a POD HD500 (immaculate) that he'd let me have for £300 inc postage.  Normally, I make it a rule never to buy gear I haven't played, but this seems a good price, and those of you who've had one seem to think highly of it...so I'm tempted to take a flyer.

What do you think?  :-/

It's very difficult to advise someone to "buy or not".  However, as a previous owner of the HD500 this might help.

Pro's.
1) Nicely touch sensitive amp models
2) Great effects
3) very quick to get a good sound
4) compact, everything in one box.

Cons (for me)
1) Cab simulations not very good (same old problem) but great if you use it with impulse cabs when recording with pod cabs switched off.
2) sounds like crap when going into the power amp of my Peavey (with pod cabs switched off).  Just could not get a usable sound out of it.

So, it really depends on what you want to use it for.  If just for practice with headphone etc then yep, great.  If you want to use it for "live" work or recording....not so great in my opinion, but then we all know that opinions aren't really worth a lot so at the end of the day it's up to you  :)

Sorry that I can't be more help

Cheers Jon - all good sensible stuff mate & appreciate the response.

I think I'm going to go for it on the basis it has a 48s looper, 2 amps at once features, it should sound good thrpugh a PA (to save me schlapping amps) and if I really don't get on with it I should pretty much be able to get my money back on it give or take a few quid.

When you say 'power amp' of your Peavey, do you mean going through the FX loop rather than at the front end?  If so, I plan to use it direct - I get good results with my TLST direct in front of my 2 Laney's & Marshall so I'm hoping the Pod will work well there too.
Ta!

Rich ;)
yes, that's right, going direct into the FX return of the peavey thereby bypassing the tonestack completely.   I just tried it into the normal amp input and it sounds even worse  :-[
Cheers Jon - I respect your opinion & experiences and as my intention is to use this with an amp (Laney VC30-210), you've given me sufficient food for thought to make sure I try this out before buying.  I've spoken to the seller & he fully understands (very nice guy as I said) - I'm going to try & find one to play this weekend, as it's the only way I can be sure if its right for me.

Cheers Jon
