No, not THAT herd!  ;)

I'm thinking about getting rid of all of my 2x12's.  The ADA's are a slam dunk, they'll be sold as is, however, my Avatar will be reloaded with some G12S' that came out of my ADA's originally so I can keep the two speakers that are in it.  This would give me just three 1x12's which obviously begs the main question I have:

What three speakers should I have in them?

Actually, this boils down even simpler.  I currently have the 1x12's loaded with two Celestion G12M Greenbacks and one Celestion Alnico Blue so I'm going to replace one of the Greenbacks for now.  That means the third 1x12 will have either a Celestion Vintage 30 or a Celestion G12H30 70th Year Anniversary Special put in it (yes, I'll be saving whichever speaker doesn't make the cut for later - I haven't decided yet whether I'll have to sell the extra Greenback or if it will be saved as well).

So which do you think is the more usable speaker for micing? The Vintage 30 or the G12H30 70th Year Anniversary Special?  In other words, if that's what you had on stage and only had one mic, which speaker would you aim the mic at?

(I hate having to sell any of my gear... :-/ )
Geez Craig.  That's a tough choice.  Having a Greenback, Blue, V30 and G12H would be what I considered having almost all the bases covered.  Choosing one of them to get rid of is tough.

If you want to cover the widest range of tones with those three speakers, choose either the Greenback or G12H to get rid of, as they are the most similar.  My choice would be to keep the G12H and take out the Greenback.

I've been on a speaker search lately so I've been trying/swapping speakers a lot.  To answer your next question about which one to mic... "whichever one you like the best!"  It depends heavily on what type stuff you are playing, what amp, what gain levels (even what volume levels) etc.   The Blue is going to be THE best sounding speaker for many things, clean to classic.  Whether or not it's suited to your amp and tastes is a different matter.  V30 probably the best for higher gain stuff.  G12H honestly should sound good with almost anything from clean to mean.  But the Blue is a special speaker.  It has a sweetness and chime that other speakers don't have.
Thanks for the input.  Remember, I'm not going to get rid of the extra, it's just going to be unloaded (maybe until I can get another 1x12 or just available to swap in at a later time). :)

As for which to mic?  Why not more than one at a time?  ::)   Actually, that question (if you go back and read just that part) was if you one had the V30 and the G12H in a 2x12.  I will say that I had originally thought of shelving either the G12H or the V30 (with leanings toward the G12H), but now you have me thinking that the Greenback might be the one getting saved...
Easy V30!!!
Craig,

in essence, a G12H (or Emi Wizard) is a Greenback (or Private Jack) with a much bigger magnet.  So it's smoother and has more meat from the low mids on down.
"So which do you think is the more usable speaker for micing? The Vintage 30 or the G12H30 70th Year Anniversary Special?"

V30.

V30.....rules.
Ok, that seems to be UN animous.  The Blue and the V30 stay.

I guess now I'll have to decide whether the G12H30 70th Year Anniversary Special or the G12M Greenback stays.
Toss the Greenback.
Hmm... That would mean I could put both greenbacks into the 2x12 and sell it at a nicer price...  OR just be cheesy and put those G12S' in there (since I don't have any use for 'em - plus I only have three that work and one that's blown).  Decisions...
I've never owned a greenback.. so I say dump the G12H30 ;)
I'm with FB, toss the greenback.
If you wnat to do it the completely democratic way.....play Survivor with them.

Hook them all up and crank the volume way up....to like.....11.  Then keep the ones that don't blow up.

Survival of the fittest.....evolution at it's best! HAHHAHA
aka blowing the most expensive speaker.   :D
Obama called and said I had to give away all of the good speakers and live with the three old ones. ;)
that's funny, he called me and said that as part of my stimulus package I would receive 3 speakers in the mail, and that I should quit my job and stay home playing guitar all day.
