Making Music

Damn this was funny doing this tonight. My son at the camera and me fucking around making a complete ass of myself...but I'm not proud...makes me laugh and if it brings a smile to somone elses face then my work is done.

I'm posting this as I hope to really nail the solo in the next couple of days and then post a comparrison video.

The sound quality on this video is crap, as this is purely the camera mics, which suck big time. Once I've finally mastered this I'll actually do a video with a proper sound recording through the mixer.

The backing track starts off with Bonham, then it's my backing track after that with midi drums supplied by Craig.

Try and get all the way through it if you can, especially the solo
LMAO!! ;D

Looks like you were having fun.  :)

You've made me realize that all music videos should come disclaimers across the screen.

I also noticed that you play the song different than I do.  I tend to bend to the note during the main part you play all the time and it looks like you're doing a hammer-on, plus I don't move up to the 5th fret for the higher part of the verse (I like the ringing effect you get from an open D string instead).  Still, it sounds good so far!
Singing too! - now there's a brave man....great fun Jon, and a pretty credible effort - even better than JP himself on occasion (eg at the O2!)...the credits made me laugh!

I've tried singing & playing at the same time, but like you I keep forgetting the bloody words too!  Must be our age Jon ...we're losing brain cells mate.

Not only that, but we're losing brain cells and forgetting words too! And I think it's 'cos we're getting old and losing brain cells that we keep fogeting stuff.  ;D

What song was that again? And who was that strange guy dancing in the vid? :-? ;D

That's great!
Loved it, but the singing needs some screaming added. That is a high volume vocal, scream it out (melodically of course) Put some breath behind it amigo. Other than that you was having fun and that came across. More volume on the guitar would have been cool.
And here's JP being sloppy  ::) & no where near as good as you Jon...

thanks

I ain't no singer by any stretch of the imagination...I just can't get the pitch that high to do the screaming stuff, the tone just ain't there....you can't polish a turd I'm afraid.

Actually there was plenty of volume on the guitar, but the autolevel sucks the guitar sound away completely when the bass/drums kick in.

All it takes is practice amigo. I am not a guitar player either but I worked my ass off to learn the little I know about it. I used to be able to sing pretty well but at 66 years old all I can do is croak a little, I still know "how" to sing, my voice just won't do it anymore, but it took me a long time to learn how by trying and trying until I got it right.
Yeah ! Great video Jon ! :)
I would be happy to sing like you ! My voice is something like Barry White (..in a bad way) ...just 1 octave lower... :D

Ciao !
Marco
i don't have the problem of forgetting the words when i attempt to sing, it is the chords i forget! :D

i take it that the wife was out that day! ;)

i would rate you as a better solo player thatn JP any day!!!!

Well fuck me upp the arse with a drumstick.  (The Icecream)

I've been learning that for the band; but just the 'second' guitar part; no singi ng; no riff; no solo.

I've gotta pick it up.....

Thanks for the motivation John Gamble.
Good stuff, Jon.  I thought you picked up an Agile Paul???  Looking forward to the next version. :)

Mines an Epiphone, I bought an Agile for my son Oliver, both are very well setup guitars, nice low action, easy to play.

Hopefully (or not, depending upon your perspective), another video coming this weekend with proper sound this time, and the proper solo (I think I have it now).
