I just think this is absolutely brilliant

Jon, You're kidding me, right?!? :-? Either that or ypu linked the wrong vid.
My daughter is WAY better! 8-)
You can't really say your daughter is "way better", it's not a competition. Your daughter is different would be a better response.
But yes, absolutely, I do think this girls voice is top notch.
Sounds fairly crap to me as well. Doesn't help that she's covering what I would consider a tame song even by Avril Lavigne's standards. But the way this woman sings "when yer gone" on the choruses doesn't do much for me. She's making up for lack of depth in her voice by yelling.
Check this out... this girl just kills a fairly pedestrian song--what I would call a voice with some real originality.

Whatever floats your boat I suppose...doesn't do it for me, full of angst indie crap (which I intensley dislike) but then that's what makes the world go round !
For solo female singer guitar players this is still the standard of excellence to climb,
poignant because she died shortly after through cancer.
But regardless of that - musically it is outstanding - and truly excellent (guitar playing is great as well)

Yeah, Eva Marie Cassidy is totally sick. Not many people sing and play at that level.
True - just thought it worth reminding what excellence truly is.
That first video is harder to hear. The guitar is up too loud and overpowering the vocals.
Thanks so much fingers for reminding me of her - Eva was fabulous and one of the few artists that have really touched my soul. This is a live version from Eva of 'songbird'

Such a tragedy for the world to lose her at only 33 yrs of age. :'(
