Does anyone out there have a good midi file or drum tab for Zeps Rock N Roll?  It's driving me nuts trying to program this (as you will hear from the little snippet that I just put together).

This would be such a great FNJ (and would be good to get a singer too), but I need to get the drums right, as they suck big time at the moment.

And I now need to go away and learn the solo (never bothered before)

Not exactly what you asked for, but would this work for ya?

Found a MIDI file that Mark sent me a long time ago...

Note that the attachment option doesn't work for this (.mid) file.

Thanks Craig, I've downloaded it and I'll give it a go later.
Here's another go at it then.

This time I just replaced my drum track with the midi drum track from Craig, although I had to change a few assignments as it sounded a bit "pants", and the intro still doesn't sound right, but not bad. Just have to work on the complete song now.

It's hopeless to try and mimic Bonham via programming, so I've added the real Bonham to the start of the recording and then it's all me from after the intro.

Works quite well I think?

And here's another go, this time with the solo.  I've been trying to learn the "live" solo to this since yesterday, and here is my first recording of it.  The whole lot in one take, quite a few bum notes, but this has been a good "learning" piece, especially the solo.  I'll practice some more and upload another version with hopefully a better quality solo later this week.

What d'ya think?  Any good, crap, ????

Yep!  Sounds like good crap to me!  :D ;)

One of the few songs that I've played live actually (though the solo was done by our lead guitarist).

I still remember playing at a keg party at the keyboardist's house with the line of stoners sitting in the front chanting "Play Zeppelin! Play Zeppelin!" so we decided to play this song and, when we were done, we looked down at the stoners for some acknowledgement and all we got were more chants of "Play Zeppelin!  Play Zeppelin!"     The dumb fucks were so out of it they weren't paying any attention.  Oh well!

Extra trivia:  The next day our drummer pulled a Spinal Tap on us and committed suicide 'cause his girlfriend left him.  Drummers!

You can now attach MIDI (.mid) files.
sounds pretty good, Jon.  How close to the original are you trying to get?
Good stuff Jon 8-) - one of my all time favs - I've been meaning to put my version on you-tube for a while now but just never seemed to get round to it - maybe over the weekend.  ::)

For the first time ever, I'm trying to nail it note for note from the "live" version on The Song Remains The Same.

I know there are quite a few wrong notes at the moment, but that's only after two hours work listing to the track in groups of 4 bars and then trying to "get" the right notes.  Another couple of evenings and I think I will have nailed it.

I'll look out for that one.  Once I've nailed it (or as close as I can get) I'll do a "live" video take....might even try to sing on it
Don't know if you've seen this yet Jon, but this is what I based my version on: -

But then JP has never played this (or anything else) exactly twice the same way ever - so I wouldn't worry about being too pedantic note wise.  At the O2 JP was (frankly) pretty crap on a lot of stuff - R&R was last & it was just dreadful - for some reason they were even playing it in G for God's sake! ::)

Yes, funnily enough he's one of the guys who "teaches" over at www.vanderbilly.com (an excellent learning source by the way).

But there are still some of the notes he plays don't sound quite right to me, although of course there are still quite a lot of my notes that are definitely not right

I've always meant the learn the "live" from the '73 concert at Madison Square garden as (to me) it is THE version, but I also agree that was just one of JP's versions as it's improvised everytime, but during '73 he hit the nail on the head.

Sweet.  I'll certainly be looking forward to hearing/seeing that.  Good choice, BTW.  As cool as the studio version is, this live one goes several different places, and I always loved it!
WOW !
Sounds and playing are extremely good !!

Five stars performance !

Ciao !
