production tips, equipment, and the main forum all have good tips and such going on.

They are a modern metal crowd so very geared to todays metal, so you will see alot about/appreciation for growling/screaming/demonic vocals...

if you can stand the uppity nature, and the frequency of bashing newbies/amateurs/home studios, then you can actually gain alot of useful knowledge.  But be warned if you join and ask a simply/easy/oft asked question you will get reamed harder than any abuse received here.

lots of useful information here...
ProSoundWeb forums.   A lot of elitism and snobbery over there, which is unfortunate, because there are some very sharp minds involved.  But sharp minds, in audio, all to often mean elitism and snobbery.  However, Harvey Gerst is a real working man's recordist, and there are plenty of very good resources, too.  Another "ask a stupid question and get smacked down" site.

The TapeOp message board.  TapeOp is one of my favorite reads, and their forums are somewhat fun too.  You can post topics for people like Steve Albini and get responses.  Not quite as much newbie hate over there.  One good thing about TapeOp is that they seem to more readily embrace cheap gear, and digital audio, than some other places.  However, TapeOp is very indie-rock oriented and very indie-rock culture slanted... if you don't like indie rock, can't trace the lineage of Pavement, and have never heard Yo La Tengo, be prepared to not understand a vast number of references.

Home Recording.  Good stuff, though I don't go there as much as I used too.  One of those forums that's actually pretty handy when you are a newbie, but once you start to outgrow newbieness, it starts to get old.  Some real gems over there, though.

I love it.  Reminds me of the audiophile days!  Sounds like a place to lurk but don't bother the "important people."   ::)
exactly, I am not a member of any of them, but visit daily...
