this is strat -> RC (off at the start) -> echoplex -> flexi -> IR
was thinking I'd buy a different IR cab for this (smooth the highs a bit, a little less boom).. but this isn't too bad, not sure I need it. (?)
Sounds great, BIG and full. Can't comment about the high end (work speakers seem to shave the highs big time) but it does sounds right when comparing it to similar tones on these speakers. Not overly sizzly but not dull either.
How do you like the RC compared to the BB? Do you mostly use it as a drive like here, or does it also make for a cool boost in front of an already crunchy tone? Since stumbling onto the Jetter I've been thinking of replacing the BB with something a little less smooth and compressed, the RC or OCD are on the short list.
hmm, it's different. ;)
RC is pretty much clean - even with the gain up a good bit it doesn't change the guitar's sound too much, but does fill it out - whether that's because the input tube on the amp is getting whomped or because it's compressing, I'm not sure. it just sounds... natural. I don't use in front of a distorted amp tone much - it lacks a mid bump for the "tube screamer in front of the amp" tightening effect so I haven't really experimented with it. I suppose you could use the EQ on it to cut treble and bass and get a similar effect that way... hmm, I'm usually pedal-free when using higher gain... I'll have to try it out sometime.
it's also extremely good after the other distortion pedals I have. fills them out... they just sound better. (BB, Fulldrive, Ultimate Octave, '69, '70, drivemaster... all are improved with it in imo). buffs up my wah and mojovibe too... it's a great little pedal.
it's not a replacement for the BB, imo. it's more of a boost/comp utility pedal than a gained up tone shaper.
Sounds FAT with a nice breakup ! Really nice tone !
It sounds totally right and GREAT Sheep. You don't need to change anything.
I've gotta build an AC and RC booster. Both use the same layout and just a couple of part changes between them, and I'm looking at it and thinking I can almost build it off one board with a switch... the AC has clipping diodes which is most of the difference. What's another $30...
