Ok, not a movie, but we don't have a TV or Mini Series catagory.

I watched this when it was on TV and thought it was good.  That was over 3 years ago.  I just watched it again on Netflix over the last couple weeks.  I had waited long enough to not remember well the twists at the end.  I REALLY enjoyed watching this again.  I think it was really good.

Also of note:  I have noticed that watching things like this makes them more intense.  I watched one or two episodes at least 3-4 days a week.  I think the freshness makes them better, more intense, etc.   Watching a 13 episode mini series like this on TV, you have at least one week between every show.  They almost always have off weeks for holidays, sports playoffs, etc... So it takes 3-4 MONTHS to watch a series, vs. less than 3 weeks the way I watched it this time.  I think that really helps.

I would say the same thing for Dexter.  I had Showtime up through season 6.  Watching them one per week for a 12 week season, then waiting months for the next season.... it was GREAT.  One of the best shows ever.  But then getting the DVDs and watching a whole season in a couple weeks, even factoring in that I had already seen them, it was more intense.  Daphne never saw it on showtime and when I loaned her and her husband the discs, they got so hooked they watched 6 seasons in less than 4 weeks and both think it's the best show ever.  I can imagine how much more intense it would be to literally watch a new episode almost every night for a 2 months, and sometimes two per night.

But back to Harpers Island...  really dug the show.  Who else saw it?  What did you think?  If you liked it, or if you didn't see it the first time, watch on Netflix!!!
just wrapped this up yesterday - pretty good. the first half was a little too dawson's creek (with murders) for my taste but watchable for aerodyne entertainment.

ever watch american horror story? that was pretty good - also in the demented murder stories genre.
I haven't watched Dawson's Creek.  Should I?

Yes, watched American Horror Story.  In fact, it was the last thing I watched (again, watched them when it was on weekly) right before I watched Harpers Island again.

I've been looking for another of this type of series to watch but I really need to watch seasons 2-5 of Dexter again, then watch season 6 for the first time.
no! dawson's creek is a mild put down in my book  ;D

I watched walking dead seasons 1&2 on netflix... oddly entertaining. tried that yet?

justified is pretty great imo... but I really loved deadwood so some of my fondness is probably nostalgic carry-over. still, good show.

mad men - awesome.

the americans - strangely addictive - nostalgic elements here too. it's set in the early 80's.

that's all that's coming to mind at the moment.
Actually, I had heard about Mad Men and went in and saw that I am what, 6 seasons behind?  LOL  That might take some time, but that is on the list.  Justified and The Americans added to list as well.   Thanks!

Did you watch the spinoff of American Horror Story?  Asylum.   I thought Jessica Lange was exceptional in both.
haven't seen it yet but it's on the list!
very different than the original.  Darker.  Pretty good though.
The one show you guys didn't mention is AMC's "The Killing."  I think that's one of the best series I've seen.  The characters just seem to strike you as real, with real problems. The female lead is outstanding and the show is really dark and grimy and has all that oppressive Seattle weather.  Seasons 1 and 2, which solves one homicide, are streaming on netflix.

I really like that "The Americans" doesn't dwell on nostalgia.  It's not about it being the 80s at all.  When I saw the first preview for that show, I thought "Keri Russell playing a spy--that'll never work."  And now I can't imagine it without her in that role. She completely owns it.
ooh, cool - I hadn't noticed that one, I'll check it out!
I'll check that out as well.
Did a search and can't find The Americans on Netflix...
it's only had one season - try amazon or itunes if you want to buy it or wait. it'll be on netflix or amazon prime eventually.
Yeah I watched the Americans on demand on cable--it's not on demand anymore but will probably be back a month before the season premiere to restoke the fires.  It was edgy and dark, and Keri Russell is brilliant.  It won't be on any "free" services for a while, you can probably rent on Amazon or iTunes or something.
Ok thanks.  I'll keep an eye out for it on demand.
