Yeah, I agree. I posted this a while back but finally got around to watching it. Thought it started out great but it eventually fell apart mid way through. The cleverness of the concept eventually killed it. They just ran too long with the 'this is not quite what you think' motif instead of twisting things around more, the 'movie cliche' ideas got predictable and repetitive, it was one after another, and another, and another, etc, it was no longer satire at that point, just frustrating to watch. Glad I borrowed the disc vs buying! I did love the little nods to Evil Dead, they were sadly the highlights for me, lol!
I was trying to figure out from the previews I saw whether this was a true horror movie or more of a dark comedy, like the Evil Dead... hard to tell from the previews.
You're right to wonder - I felt the same way from the previews, was like WTH is it supposed to be? There's plenty of humor but then again they went into a lot of detail with the presentation of it all, making it come off as a legit horror movie. I think in the end though it's ultimately a satire on the whole cliched B movie horror genre. Right out of the gate you see they're intentionally following typical scary movie blueprints. A creepy guy telling a 'predicatable group' (jock, hot slut, annoying guy you can't wait to see die, loser, etc) of youngsters "don't go up to that house, lots of stange things going on up there lately"...so of course they go, like they do in all these movies....that type of thing. Only with a clever twist. But it doesn't hold up (for me anyway), because those elements are not strong enough, or like Johnny says, weak writing. Unlike Evil Dead (for example), the humor isn't as light hearted, and then the "scary/horror" aspect doesn't give you that true sense of dred either, that claustraphobic feel Evil Dead (and a few others) DOES manage to do. They also give away too much too soon IMO, more restraint would've made the build up and finish more satisfying.
You should still give it a watch, it definitely doesn't suck, has some very interesting moments actually (and characters - the guy playing the stoner dude steals the show, he sorta plays the role like Shaggy from Scooby Doo IMO), just don't set your expectations high based on its RT rating (91%).
I watched it. I don't like horror movies but decided to try something different. I thought it sucked.
It was good till the slut got killed, about 2 minutes into the show. ;D
I just don't see why people watch that stupid crap. But thats just me. Hell, I still like the Rambo movies and Scarface. ;D ;D

Rent it. I swear I thought I'd seen it before. Didn't look like it took much creativity to come up with that stuff. Seriously, very average, typical, horror show, imo.
We were in hmv today so on a whim I bought this on dvd. Not sure what to make of this to be honest. It was entertainng but didn't draw me into the story at all. Just seemed like a series of gory situations.
Disappointing
The dvd goes on ebay tomorrow
