That "big controversy" was always manufactured.

It was essentially based around the term "trick" used by the scientists involved.
Which means something like "clever methodology" to a scientist or mathematician in handling data.
rather than a "trick" as used in every day language as a conman.

It is  the same shit as when creationists attack "theory" by making out it is equivalent to "hypothesis".
