I keep on this because it bothers me. What did I say about Obama's tax plan that was untruthful?
I will apologize immediately to you and everyone else if I stated my opinion as fact. I haven't. I don't do that. There is a huge difference between fact and opinion. I know that. I'd like to see where I made that mistake if I did.

I examined the arguments the best I could and could not believe what I was reading.
My basic nature is to find out the truth. To the best of my ability I want to know the the truth.
When I saw my persuit of truth had been thwarted through religion and particularly Fundamentalist religion ......I felt duped.
In all my years up to that point I had never seen the other side.
Through reading about the enlightenment,freethinking,logic,rational thought,science,critical thinking and how they go about coming up with an answer to something... I was enthralled.
How could it be that I made it into my late thirties without this knoweledge?
It has changed me forever.
I look at everything through my new lense and knoweledge and notice when people have a similar one. It's a pattern of thought.
It shows in how they approach problems and how they argue. It shows in what they think is important or valid.
Hook is right when he says he thinks differently. He gets the jist of critical thinking,rational thought,and logic........ ;Dbut I don't think he has understood the pattern.
He exibits a desire to know.
He mimmics the general idea.
But I don't think he has taken the time to try to "learn" or to understand the writings of a Bertrand Russell or others in the genre.
He has admitted he wants to learn as much as possible with the least amount of effort. You just can't get there with cliff notes the night before.
You can't get there without wrestling though the ideas and truely pondering them.
It's the difference between learning something and rote memory.
It's like reading comprehension,without it you can't explain why the answer on the test is right or wrong.
It can only be faked for so long.
I have read a lot about the subject. My retention of specific facts may not bet that good. But I know the pattern .
I see "the pattern" in Obama.

What do I like about Obama.....
He's well educated, it shows in how he handles himself, seems to have a great family behind him, he speaks well, seems to be a thinker, wants to change Washington, his choice of VP, his opposition to the Bush doctrine, his agenda with this war, his general ideas.
Now, the part your waiting for. Dislikes.
I dislike the fact that he has not addressed the debt. That worries me big time. This is very important to me. The fact that his economic plans will increase the debt is simply irrisponsible, imo. Why have we come to a place where "Americans" are expected to and do, stay in debt? And why is it that "America's" way of surviving is to normilize debt as well? And why is this man not talking about this?
The next thing is, as of today, I don't know what Obama's agenda or GOAL"S will be anymore. He's said his plans will have to change or be suspended, delayed, because of the economic troubles. So, what will change be exactly? If their gonna have to change or be delayed, what will he be doing? In short, who is this guy? What is he gonna do to right the ship? I really don't know. Why isn't he ignoring the McCain bullshit and letting him sink his own ship and telling the people what his plans are, or goals are? Why has he not set any public goals, such as reducing the debt, completely ending this never ending war, simply explaining himself? He's out there doing what politicians do, playing the blame game. That isn't change.... already. If your preaching change, the way you present yourself to Americans should represent that change. If your about change, why do you have to wait till your President to start that cycle? American's would love it if he were to stick to the issues and simply ignore politics as usual, imo. Fucking love it man. We need a good President. Why is he not taking the opportunity to be that President, or candidate?

I think you are misled here. You keep saying Obama doesn't have plans or goals. He does. You just don't like them.
You want a president who will say "I will lower the deficit by 40% by year X." Not gonna happen. It's not just Obama... it's McCain, too. Now, McCain has promised a
balanced budget. But that is not deficit reduction. That is spending no more than we take in. That's "balance". Of course, anyone who looks at McCain's plan has to say "he's on crack." There's no WAY he will present a balanced budget. In fact, his plans for balancing the budget include a complete spending freeze for everything except the military and veteran's affairs. That's not going to happen, because no Congress or Senate will pass that budget. It's about as likely as him promising that he will take our excess carbon dioxide, and smash it down in his ass into diamonds and oxygen.
Look, Clinton didn't run on a platform that he would have a budget surplus in year X. He never even DREAMED a surplus. It just happened, because under him, shit got WAY better. That's what I anticipate under Obama. Shit is going to get WAY better. And as a result, there will be much better budgets in the future. What those look like, no one can say. But they are coming.

The question was who won the debate. As far as the debate goes, I gave an edge to McCain based on his answers as a voter siting at home watching. I thought he had better, or seemed to have more knowledge of, foreign policy and international affairs. I also said it was close to a tie.
Now if you want to pick apart everything both men have said about foreign policy and what's on their website, and their history....well, that's a different subject, imo.
But as far as the debate goes, only the debate, which was the question.....I gave my opinion. The end.

In reality, he probably still has more knowledge than Obama. Just a guess though, he's been in politics for what, 98 years now? Obama, 4 weeks? ;D
Just because McCain has more experience or knowledge with this doesn't mean Obama can't make better decisions on the issues. Obama isn't ignorant of the issue, as far as I can tell.

Stratman was accused of saying things he really meant but when called out he would say he was kidding. So much so that he put smileys on the end of every sentence for a while.

I will apologize immediately to you and everyone else if I stated my opinion as fact. I haven't. I don't do that. There is a huge difference between fact and opinion. I know that. I'd like to see where I made that mistake if I did.
You never said he'd be raising taxes for most people? Maybe I got lost in the blur of tool posts about these topics and attributed something that someone else without knowledge wrote. If that's the case, I apologize. Mea culpa...but I can't check the WH posts, so I'm not entirely sure you never said it. I vaguely recall it coming out in a discussion about their tax plans.
Smileys or not, this statement was a misrepresentation of the facts (and therefore false):
Isn't it kinda funny that McCain says he's going to Washington to do his job at a time of huge crises in the U.S., invites Obama to join him, Obama refuses and says Bush can call him at anytime if he's needed....hours later, Bush calls him and tells him to get his ass to Washington and do your fucking job. Who's gonna make him do his job when he's President?
Such drama. Damn.
Obama actually talked to McCain and proposed they work together to find a solution, and make a joint statement. McCain agreed to it, and then hours later did his grandstanding press conference to paint Obama as though he wasn't doing anything, which was a load of crap.
And that's just one of many examples when you've represented GOP spin as though it was the reality...which is why we've come after you for being dishonest about things (because the GOP has been stunningly dishonest this campaign - even more than previous ones, which is saying something).
People can have their own opinions, but they don't get to have their own facts.
McCain's been trying to do that this entire campaign, and you've been playing along just so it doesn't seem like you're in the tank for Obama.
I think we've exhausted this topic. In looking for your misstatements, I read a lot of your old posts, and I understand better where you're coming from, big-picture-wise. I just think you've fallen victim to spin far more often than you think you have.

The tax plans were discussed in this thread (which started out as abortion being birth control). I didn't read it all to see if it applied to what you're talking about above, but went to find it earlier and realized most wouldn't think to look in that thread for tax stuff!

McCain will win Alabama by 25-30 percentage points. Why are we expending energy working out your vote? Why are you? Just follow the election on fivethirtyeight.com -- vote if you want to -- but if it makes you feel better to not vote for McCain or Obama, as an act of rebellion, then go for it.

I would suggest you go to Wikipedia. Why not start of with liberalism? It will give you a starting point.
I'm not talking about a quick 10 minute overview.
Slowley read through and ponder what your reading. Read things more than once. Coming back to what you have already read at a later date when you have learned more.
Click on the links in blue. which in return will give you more.
Then start checking out the conservative side and their philosophies.
I'm talking about getting a basic understanding of what's going on. At least 100 hours of serious reading. Perhaps more.
Otherwise your never really going to understand what's going on.
In this case your oposition is tripper,charger,fingers.
You must understand your oposition.You must know their basic pattern of thinking and why they think the way they do.
You have to look at things from the point of view of the person you disagree with......You can't do that unless you understand their basic philosophy and view.
But you can't start off being against something you don't know about...refuse to learn about it and ignore the evidence they bring forth......at least not if you expect to learn.
You must have intellectual curiosity to learn.....
You must become a reader.
Otherwise you will stay in this perpetual confusion.

Why do you take this as me saying Obama will raise taxes? Other than the 5%??? I'm lost on this one.
I now understand why Obama's tax plan is better. I read the whole thread and my post, posted by Craig. I admitted a few times that I was getting more confused as I read. But I don't see the above post in question by me as saying Obama would raise taxes.
So the answer is no to Trips question. I have never said Obama would raise taxes on most people.
