I find it pretty interesting that in the first year that Obamacare actually went into effect, health care costs grew the slowest since 1960.
Why is that interesting? Thats one effect promised by Obama.
A friend of mine checked in to Obama care last week. He has no job, really, probably makes 10k on odd stuff a year.
So, he can get insurance, for $330 a month. Are you serious? WTF? That's no help. So, he can get that plan for that much per month, or forget it. This is kinda strange too. He doesn't make enough money to have to pay the fine for not having healthcare. ;D
So Obamacare is worthless to him. That's just shit. He's exactly the kind of person Obamacare was intended for, right? But he gets no help at all from it and he voted for Obama in part, because of this healthcare thing.
Way to early to be coming to conclusions on Obamacare or the effects of it. Their are millions of people still not covered at all. Probably illegal folks. ;D
It's going to be years before we know if this is going to be better than the system we had.

If he makes 10k a year, he is below 100% of the federal poverty level ($11,670), and qualifies for that entire subsidy to be paid for by Obamacare, meaning he gets free healthcare. In fact, at below $16,105, he qualifies for Medicaid, and gets free insurance without even going through the exchanges. Even if he made significantly more, some portion of it would be paid by the federal government all the way up to 400% of the federal poverty level ($46,680 for a single person). If he had actually looked into this, he would have discovered that. It's a lot more interesting and controversial for him to be completely uneducated and say that it would cost him a ton of money to get Obamacare though, regardless of whether it's accurate or not, right?
By the way, this took me one google search, for the words "obamacare subsidy cutoff," and three clicks to find out. Tell your friend he's qualified for Obamacare and Medicaid to be paid for. No need to tell him he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, and probably not qualified to operate a computer or a calculator.
Here's a simple way for your friend to determine his subsidy.
https://www.ehealthinsurance.com/ehi/resources/subsidy-calculator?#subsidyEstimator
If a person qualifies for a subsidy, meaning the person makes up to 400% of the federal poverty level, then the cost for insurance cannot be more than 9.5% of gross income. 9.5% of 10k is $950. That's the maximum he could pay yearly if he makes 10k. However, that's for 400% of the federal poverty level. The lower the percentage of federal poverty level, the lower that maximum percentage is. And like I said, at 10k a year, he's not only below federal poverty level entirely, he's below the level at which he qualifies for Medicaid, which is free. Do your homework.
I don't need to do homework. I just told you what he had to pay. If that's Obamacare, the shit should be tossed in the can. he can't get medicaid period. So he's fucked. Obamacare doesn't help him at all.

And I'm telling you that you, and him, are wrong. If you go through a cost estimator for Obamacare, you have to figure in your earnings to get an accurate estimate. If he figures in 10k, he would be entirely subsidized. Realize, that I just posted this twice above, with the actual facts, and with a simple online calculator to actually figure it out, and then you posted right below that that he can't get it and doesn't qualify. Do you even believe your own spin at this point?
Look. I told you what they told him. I don't care what you posted. We are not wrong. What I'm telling you is the result of his direct communication with the people. He was given a estimate that his premium would cost no less than $330 per month. Now, maybe they told him wrong, but I'm just relaying the results of the conversation to you.
Also, with the wonderful, effective, organized history so far with Obamacare.... this could just be another example of how fucked up this thing is. That wouldn't surprise me a bit. But to basically call me a liar crosses the line. It doesn't matter how things are "suppose" to go, it didn't go as your facts say they were to go. And, that's the fact of the matter right there.
The fact is, cig smoking can cause cancer. However, people smoke their heads off and gamble their life away everyday. Just because something is suppose to happen a certain way, or just because something can possibly kill you, doesn't matter. People smoke any way. And, my friend was quoted a premium of over $300 per month. Regardless of the "facts" you posted. And just for the record, he's probably as liberal as you.

He's doing something wrong. You said above, the people told him. There are no "people." There's an exchange for each state and for those that don't have one, a federal exchange. The cost may well have been $330 a month for the insurance... however, that doesn't factor in the subsidy. The subsidy is MANDATED BY FEDERAL LAW to prevent the cost to a person from going over 9.5% of their income per year. That part is Obamacare. And that's at 400% of the poverty level. At lower percentages, it's less--and below 16k income, he qualifies for Medicaid. He doesn't need to talk to anyone, and there is no central "the people" to tell him his cost would be 1/3 of his income. He can just go register through an exchange and sign up for the subsidy, or sign up for Medicaid. He's definitely talking to the wrong people. Like I said, do your homework. I don't understand your analogy to smoking either... that's unrelated. This is a federal law.
Look. I really don't give a shit at this point, but...
He did it online. The people, who the fuck ever responded to him, said $330. Is it right, is it wrong? I don't know. That's what's transpired as of now. Did one of them make a error that has yet to be discovered? Possibly. Nonetheless, that's what transpired.
Maybe this??? I don't know....

That's entirely possible, and I hadn't thought of that. Although, newsmax, really? But I did not realize there was a coverage gap between people who earn too much for medicaid in states that didn't do the expansion. In that case, how can you blame Obama? That's 100% the fault of the governor of Alabama, for refusing to allow Medicaid expansion to cover those people.

So basically, if your friend is unlucky enough to live in a Republican state, and makes more than 50% and less than 100% of the federal poverty level, he can't get free or subsidized insurance.
Write this guy. http://governor.alabama.gov/

It was the first thing that came up and the content was true/factual. Doesn't matter where accurate information comes from, only that is is true or correct.
I can blame Obama easily. It's his puppy.

Of course you CAN blame him. It doesn't mean you SHOULD. Charger is 100% right. Rick Perry fucked a lot of people here in Texas the same way. But it's not HIS fault, right? It's the fact that the federal government left part of it up to the states. So it is Obama's fault for not getting a better plan in place. Not that Republicans and weak Democrats didn't make sure the President didn't get what he actually wanted (which was a universal system or at the very least a public option).
Don't be a partisan moron hater, Hook. You're better than that. :)
Tripper
Maybe you both misunderstood my sarcasm. I "could" easily blame Obama. It is his puppy. But I blame the entire group of childish idiots. Obama, congress, senate, dems, pubs, governors, you name it. I'm totally over these people. None of them have any credibility imo. I see exactly whats going on, I assure you.
It's not about childish, it's about paid. Look at the way they all came together to give Wall street a big gift...
Ah, yeah, they are childish. Immature pigs.
This country would be so much better if we had a entire new group of people in congress and senate.
We are really in need of change, like Obama ran on. But change can't happen from the President down. I think it has to be from the senate, to congress, and then President. As long as the clowns are left to rape our country, senate and congress, nothing will change. A president can't change stupid, self serving idiots into smart, country first respectable people. Well, I guess they aren't stupid. They continue to mind fuck people everyday to get their way.
So, does that surprise you? If your sticking your head in the sand and think that all the problems we have are solely republican oriented, you'd be sadly mistaken.
I didn't say anything about the "team". I'd say Republicans consider themselves more honest because they robustly represent the donor class over the "country" or "people" instead of pretending they all don't work together to do their masters' bidding.
I'm coming to the conclusion that the only person worth a damn in Congress is Elizabeth Warren.

Thats speculation. I'd say that all the fuckers think "we" think that they are all honest, and lots probably do based on what party their lied to by. I know I've said this before, but I am seriously thinking of not voting and paying attention to politics anymore. I'm sick of voting for sub par liars.

And that's a stretch! She has caught my attention a few times though. If I had to fill in a name at the end of your sentence, I'd have to put her name their too.
