Will this hurt his election chances ?
I personally don't think so. I think if he ignored her instead it would damage his chances.
Obama could probably take the rest of the campaign off, and he'd still win.
Can't hurt with many elderly white women.
Obama's going to be fine...I just hope he really gets to spend good, quality time with his grandma before she passes away, because she was as much a mother to him as his own mom.
I seriously think that Obama's marketing in states full of old white people (PA, FL, OH, WV) should have tons of pictures with him and his mom, grandma, and grandpa. Just to remind them that though he's half black, he's half white, too...
I don't know how many half-and-half people you've known, but from what I've heard from my mixed-race friends, it's a tough thing to be.
Off topic, I really wanted to send a little dig to my mom and dad about one of their favorite Americans (Colin Powell) endorsing Obama over his friend of 25 years, John McCain. I didn't, though. She just needs to remain as ignorant as possible so that her reason doesn't encourage her to vote for someone who isn't anti-Roe (like Obama). She's always voted for the "pro-life" candidate, no matter how much of a shitbag they are. It's kind of sad that she's such a one-issue voter. I think you expect more from your parents, you know?
But I digress...
Tripper
Obama and Co. can probably quit campaigning... Republicans over the last few days have been doing so much good work for them. First, Palin said she liked "the real America" and the "pro-America parts of America" better than other parts... Then Rep. congressman Robin Hayes, from North Carolina, said "liberals hate real Americans" when warming up a McCain crowd. Then there was the ridiculousness by Michelle Bachmann, who single-handedly took her race in Minnesota back 50 years. If the Dems don't talk for the next two weeks, Republicans will more than make up the difference.

Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel
I think it will likely benefit Obama - remind some people that this little old white lady is his grandma and shows his decent human side.
But I am a cynic when it comes to politics and especially around elections.
:)
Two days probably won't hurt him. I hope he doesn't get to confident though. He's pretty much got it won unless he fucks it up.
I like this....."willful ignorance". True at times, but funny as hell.

My Grandmother, whom I was very close to,died whilst I was in the navy. I was stationed in Western Australia at the time, by the time I got the news that she was suddenly ill and was able to fly home, she had already died. I'm still saddened by the fact that I wasn't able to see her one more time and tell her again how much she meant to me.
I was very close to my grandparents on my Mothers side.
Kinda off the subject, but I went to their funerals, of course, and refused to view them as they had open caskets. I've never done that to anyone I knew well or cared about. Actually no one, come to think about it. Never sen a dead person before.
I just don't want that to be my last memory of them.
