any thoughts guys? probably has the smallest resume of any Nobel laureate.
I heard this but never learned why.  I can't think of ANY reason he would even be nominated for one.  I'm betting all past winners are feeling their award just got cheapened.
The Nobel peace prize is a totally political award and not very meaningful in most cases

Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa and Henry Kissinger have won it - spot the odd one out  :P

But Obama could probably done without this award - far too early and doesn't help him.
kind of a trap really.

He has got it for not being GWB and  ending the reign of  idiocy  in the US government
Though their warmongering days were over anyway after leading the US into near bankruptcy.

So it is not clear why he has won anything

Ha! More like just continuing the idiocy.  The beginning of a new error.  Both Bush's were a joke and now Obama has outspent them in just a few months.  I don't care HOW bad things get, the last thing we need is the Government totally controlling our lives.

I still think BOTH so-called "parties" are in this together to ensure their continued power, removal of liberties and a completely needless ongoing expansion of Government.

It seems like every day you turn on the TV you see Obama making a speech.  You're done campaigning dip shit, why don't you actually spend some time running the country?  (And I don't mean running it into the ground.)

GWB managed to outspend his budget by 5 trillion
GWB was running a 500billion deficit in boom times!!
His leaving gift was an enormous financial crisis and a wreaked economy with a deficit ballooning out of control.

It is quite ironic that a bunch of ideological twats with  a cunning plan titled
"Project for a New American Century"
have basically fucked the US over so badly
and simply accelerated the "Project for a New Chinese Century" by decades.

It is economically delusional to  think that  anyone would be able to repair that legacy  or change the trajectory of negative economic numbers in the first year of the huge recessionary fallout.

yeah, obama getting a nobel peace prize at this point is pretty silly.

it's also a bit funny that he's getting it on credit... a prize leveraged against future good deeds. fits right in with the times.

the nobel peace prize CDO.
ironsheep — Oct 11, 2009the nobel peace prize CDO.

Was that supposed to be COD?  :D
awards are all bullshit... as a kid i always managed to pick up those sympathy awards at school.. you know the ones that were made up to make you feel better because you sucked at everything...
Here ya go Assman, take some of these!  ;)

I think it was a poorly timed choice by the Nobel committee... no matter their good intentions, it gives people who already hate Obama, like Chase, one more talking point.

Obama had nothing to do with selecting the prize, and it might be wise to keep that in mind, though I am pretty sure that if you woke up tomorrow and it was raining, at this point you could probably tie that to Obama too.
No, that's still Bush's fault...  ;) ;D

If you're talking about the steady rain of jobs disappearing into the China Sea, yes, Bush gave that the old college try.
chase — Oct 10, 2009any thoughts guys? probably has the smallest resume of any Nobel laureate.

Yeah. Obama had nothing to do with the decision on who won the thing. And his response to winning was accurate  and honest, imo.

Just gives you and Rush something else to bitch about. ;D
As usual, the post-election McCain was a class act.  Too bad our society has become so freaking uncivil.
It's just a shame that a person listens to conservative talk bullshit and comes here to repeat the garbage they say as if concerned people with an individual thought process hasn't already checked out the waist distributed by Fox and MSNBC.

I went through the same learning process so I understand at first. But it goes on and on and on.....shit. At some point a person has to use their own mind.
i don't listen to much radio period; much less talk radio

O.K., talk radio and Fox news.

Apparently, you not listening to too much talk radio is uhhh, too much. ;D ;D
god forbid somebody come to their own conclusion and it's one that isn't liberal....
chase — Oct 14, 2009god forbid somebody come to their own conclusion and it's one that isn't liberal....

I'm not saying this is you (because by and large, you're not always spouting the typical right-wing talking points - you seem much more fiscally conservative and talking-pointy in that regard than anything else), but most right-wing people who say they come to their own conclusions have opinions that strangely follow exactly the spew we're getting from Rush or Hannity - often with the same phrases and everything.

Just FYI, Arafat had a smaller peace prize resume - just Bush being gone, and the resultant change in tone from this country apparently was good enough for the Nobel crew. I think it's absurd, personally.

And President Obama agrees with you that he doesn't think he should have won...he basically said so in his speech thanking them for honoring him with the prize.

Here's hoping it makes him measure up to it, and truly be a man that steers the world toward peace. It's too bad there are so many in this country who are bent on destroying any chance America has to succeed under this president, so soon into his presidency.

I'm sorry, when righties cheer America not getting the Olympics, there's something fundamentally WRONG with them. Their partisanship has trumped their patriotism, and they should be ashamed of themselves...

Tripper
Well said Trip.

Yeah, the really said part of politics today is the complete hatred of the opposition. It's so bad now that, as Trip said, some are selling out their own country and the over all good of America. Pitiful. That's partly why I would never consider myself a part of the disgusting dem. or rep. party. Some people confuse being liberal to any degree with the democrat party. That's isn't always the case.

Some also think that just because they voted for Obama that they will agree with his every decision and move. Never gonna happen. I think that's partly why you see his approval rating decline. They don't like a move he makes and all the sudden their ready to jump ship. Temporarily, that is. Until he does something they like again.

Just think how much faster we would see progress in America if everyone backed up our President. Sure, hash out the differences, but hash them out and move the fuck on. This health care thing, for example, is a constant drain on America. It just goes on and on, fight after fight. All over the news everyday.

I think Americans are sick and tired of the arguing and fighting among congress etc. Politicians in general. We need people to work together and if they don't, don't vote for them again. I'd like to whip Nancy P.'s ass. She is appalling.  ;D

Sorry, little rambling there.

I liked this guy's take.  In a nutshell:
Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize last week and almost nobody thought to congratulate the guy!

True, but shouldn't that be expected when you get an award you haven't earned? :-?
I can accept your view on that.  Some people won't cheer him for it.  Hell, it appears that the recession is over, and I don't expect chase or you to cheer Obama for that.

For qualifications, I agree they are slim, but the Nobel committee's rationale seemed sound to me.  He's taken concrete steps towards peace and towards talks instead of war in several places in the globe (Iran anyone?)... if you think it's a slam on our country for actively seeking conflicts when GW was pres, you're probably right.  On the other hand, we deserve criticism when we do stupid shit.  And if our president backing off on the stupid and ramping up on the smart is viewed by the world as a good thing, cool with me.

It's one thing, though, not to congratulate him.  It's another to go out of your way to slam him.  He didn't nominate himself, campaign for it, or vote for himself.  He was as surprised as you or I.  I think his team thought they were being punk'd when they first got the call.  To then have all the right-wing gasbags turn around and start talking about how this is yet another example of how Obama is looking to ruin the world, destroy your home, and eat your children as a snack, that's just ludicrous.
It could almost be a right wing conspiracy  :P

I bet he thought - oh fuck - when he heard he had the award.

Yeah Charger....talks? Before we go to war in another country? Why?

Oh yeah....because Bush is gone. Thank God or whoever. ;)
