Apparently you need to read a bit more science there Hooky... Global Warming causes the arctic ice to melt which then causes the temperature difference between the Arctic ocean and the Atlantic to normalize. When that happens there's no longer an exchange of currents between the two oceans (which keeps the Atlantic cool and the Arctic unfrozen) and, when THAT occurs, everything will get very, very cold (in other words, another ice age). I seem to recall that scientists think this would take a temperature increase of around 8 degrees and we've already gone up about 3.
Perhaps you're getting Global Warming confused with the Greenhouse Effect (where dense clouds from the aftermath of a caldera eruption or meteor strike debris cause heat to stay in the atmosphere)?
