Was it illogical that I said if you look at facts Biden won?

Who a person thinks won or not depends on  the criteria that person uses. What  they think is relevent.
You must first define your terms.

Your criteria includes how you feel about her. Your emotions.

I like how she talks.I thinks she cute. I'm attracted to her.
I don't like what she says.

My criteria for who won dosen't include my personal feelings about her.

Why? Because I think a logical ,rational person wouldn't include these things.
While communication to others(in this case our populace) is important. By far the way a person thinks is more important.
What good is it if our president or vice president communicats well if  the message is no good.

Who do you think won the debate? Was there a clear winner?

Biden.

Does appearance and body language have an affect on the outcome at times during debates? Maybe even what the people debating are wearing?

Not to me. I prefer to think about what they are saying..... paying attention to the reasons they give behind the answer.
It might to those swimming in ignorance.
Those people who think that is important . Those who include that as relevent.
Public opinion in America is not very critical. If the importance of those kinds of things trump rational, logical thought in the general public ,we have a problem as a people.

Now you've claimed that my reason for calling a draw are illogical....I've said I'm not voting for McCain, I've said I like Biden from the time he was piked as VP, and you can verify this by checking other post, and I've also said I like the underdog, referring to Palin. If my only choice, as far as voting is concerned, is Obama, 3rd party, or not voting, do you think that because Palin showed up and didn't make a fool of herself would change that position on my part?

Because of the way I see you thinking here,There is no telling what might sway you.

It could be anything from thinking a persons face is red, Percieved anger that may or not be ,to just something you might assume.

It's the other factors that determine who wins in a debate that you have a problem with, correct?

In this sentence you assume there other factors that determinedebate. This all depends on who makes the rules. Who's rules are we using. Where are they?

Now, you came away with these opinions. She did pretty well, she has a great personalty, she's cute....

No,I didn't think or say she did well.
Yes Isaid she was cute ect.
Where would you get the idea I thought she did well?

.

So your opinion of her was good, emotion based, possibly lust based, appearance based, correct?

What is emotion based?

My opinion is that I like her personality. I think she is cute.
That doesn't have anything to do with who won the debate or if I think the is competent to do her job s VP.

So, your trying to paint me as a republican, why? It's irreverent what the republicans say, and irreverent that we have close to the same opinion.

As I and others have here have noted. Your thinking and argumentss  are Republican.
Yet you claim you are not. I would like to know how you keep sounding like a Republcan bloggist but say your not Republican.
What you claim does not match up to your way of thinking.

I do not say you are therefore lying. Or are dishonest. I think you just do not think in a logical, critical matter.
I have looked back and read a lot of your posts lately.. This seems to be an ongoing problem for you.
I'm trying to get you to think differently.

you are the "hookbender" (tip from a fisherman, use stronger hooks!   ;D)  he said "debate goes on dehook."  I thought he was speaking your language!   ;D ;D
We agreed that Biden was on his heals, did her debate style put him there? Was it her personality that put Biden on his heals? Or, was she simply in control of the debate?

I agreed his had his facts.  I should have been more clear.

No....I don't think he was in a defensive position.

Quote:
Seemed he was on his heals most of the time but had a better grasp of facts for sure.

Ok...I guess I agree.

O.K., then criteria is set by the individual, the voter, the viewer of the debate? There is no set rules by which one should follow to determine the winner, the winner is determined by the individual based on a huge array of criteria as to what's important to each person, can we agree here? Your criteria may be different than others, right? She had a effect on you based on the performance she gave during the debate, right?

Communication......she did that well, yes? Because she spoke with complete sentences, or because she is in touch with common people and spoke directly to them, she spoke in terms those swimming in ignorance could understand, she said what you wanted to hear, or because she impressed you with knowledge she, in the past, didn't have? Some people may find her speaking in complete sentences a normal educated person's trait. Maybe the media set her up to be successful by low expectations derived from the media itself. All she had to do was complete sentences in the first place. Maybe not. Kinda subjective, isn't it?

Appearance....so Biden could show up wearing a pink suit with a Tabasco tie and what came out of his mouth would be viewed the same way, receive the same amount of attention to detail as he received in the debate dressed conservatively? And Palin could be dressed in a leopard print dress with a slit up the middle and be given the same opportunity to redeem herself as she was in the debate dress conservatively? I could consider you uneducated because of all the misspelled words in your post to, right?

The way I'm thinking??? If a person's face is red at times, that would make me think he lost the debate? That's a stretch. However, it is appearance, body language, and that would be ONE determining factor, correct?

The rules, who makes the rules? Let's determine that. I say it's the individual viewing the debate, everyone may have a different set of what they consider important, or rules. I don't like the term rules, I'm unaware of any rules one needs to determine the outcome of a Presidential debate, or VP debate. Can we agree here? But rules are not the subject of discussion or the point of the question. You have a problem with the reasons I gave for calling it a draw based on the performance of one of the participants, Palin, correct?

Where did I get the idea she did well, or you said she did well? I got that from your post. You said she did better than you expected her to do. You set the rules as a individual for her before the debate, your expectations were low, she exceeded those expectations. I would assume you thought she did, well. Simple as that. Am I correct?

Emotion based. Example. If I said to you as a presidential candidate that I was gonna make possible a $10,000 tax refund to every person in America starting the first year of my term. If you vote for me based on that false statement because it made you excited and hopeful, and didn't question the possibility of this happening or question how this were going to be done....you based your vote on emotion, not logic or facts. You know what I mean.

My thinking and arguments are telling you I'm a republican? Wow. I don't think so, they are similar, at times, depending on the issue. But I do like some of both candidates ideas. I like some republican ideas on some issues, democrats on others. Perhaps we haven't talked about an issue that I like on the democrat side. Could that be it? Could you be rushing to judgment because we've discussed 1 or 2 subjects and all you see is republican? Is that a fair assessment? Do I not get the benefit of the doubt because 2 subjects are all you need? I admitted fault concerning taxes and debt, the chart, on one issue that made me realize I like the Dem's approach to taxes and debt. Did you ignore that just so you could continue arguing, or are mistakes something you don't tolerate? If I say something one time and admit fault, does that not count? Is that still held against me? Are their rules of discussion when talking to you that I may specifically need to know? I view mistakes as opportunity to learn, not failure. How do you view mistakes? Should I hold you accountable for being religious at one time? Maybe I should hold you accountable for all the horribly misspelled words in your post and dismiss it altogether, would that be the correct thing to do also?

Face it - Palin is all presentation and there was no content to attack
She is  tasked to reach out with the common touch to engage voters who are as clueless as she is.

It was not a debate about policy, she doesn't have any understanding of policy, she only has one act and it is presentation politics.

Biden was being careful not to be seen to bully or patronise her and let her win this presentation war.

Her aim was to provoke Biden into attacking her, the plan was  to use this to point out the liberal intellectual elitism of Obama/Biden ticket and how he treats her small town ignorance with contempt and hope it alienates the voters.

For Biden it  was like debating with a cutesy child with a nasty side.
If he had attacked her - I bet she had a pre-prepared line to feign indignant offence as a woman that he arrogantly dismisses the people of small town America like her.

Biden won because he didn't fall into the trap where she got to use that line.

He had the "who is competent to be backup president" contest won before the debate even began.

I'm pretty sure the election isn't going to be a tie, though at the rate things are going, I also think Hookbender will say it is a tie, even if McCain loses, because no one expected him to win.  ;)
She does seem a bit like "The Bad Seed".

Not hardly, I don't want McCain to win, even if Obama has to cheat. ;D Don't think that's necessary though. ;D

Can't argue that, really. This was Palin attempting to hang on to the votes McCain already had. I'd say she did that, but nothing more. This was her show and she performed well enough, but this is the last VP debate, and the show is over. Now, she can only hurt McCain, she has no script.

I pretty much agree  untill you get to assuming I somehow thought she did well.
There was no indication of that in my post. Your logic is flawed when you assume I thought she did well. I didn't and for the same reason I and tripper have explained........ and others.

I said she did a little better than I thought. Not a lot. Little meaning a small degree.

Also I don't think she communicated much....so not well on that either.

And...dressing oddly could help or hurt depending on the reason.

I'm not looking for your approval, first of all.

Let's see if we can define well, shall we? I consider well, better than expected, good, not the best, not excellent, and it doesn't mean or include the word won or win in it's definition. Acceptable. If you thought she would do poorly, and she exceeded that, one might think that you mean she did well, right? Acceptable, didn't win, but did better than I thought she would do. A LITTLE better than you thought???? Did I miss that word in your quote, or post? I don't recall "little" being in your post.

Her personality has everything to do with how she communicates right? If she has a good personality, she communicated that to you in some way, am I wrong?

Dressing oddly is not the point. I think some teens dress oddly, when in fact, it isn't odd at all. It's called fashion. Dressing inappropriately, is the point. And it says something about one's character, correct?

Now, back to the question at hand. If Palin performed better than expected, is it illogical to consider that, based on her past complete failures, in this debate? If the media, and SOME people had the perception going in that Biden would crush her in a debate for any reason, facts, logic, whatever....if Palin SEEMED to hold her own ageist a very experienced Biden, facts aside, is that illogical of me to consider that as one aspect of this debate? And if I deem it to be important to "me", does that one entity make me, as a person, illogical? Is it possible that other people, not you, may judge this debate on something in addition to logic and facts?
Well the polls say Biden won by a big margin - so I guess he won.

Maybe she wants to be a president - of Alaska :)

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Xmt0rLtgmK0
The polls are not in question here, between Pick and I. I am in question, an individual judgment on who won the debate. What the majority thinks, is simply irrelevant. This is strictly about my individual judgment of who won the debate. My reasons for saying it was a draw are in question. My reasons, no one elses. With all do respect, of course. :)

Yes you did.
Post #56 in the other Palin thread.

Your too lazy to check the facts before you make your assumptions.

If you thought she would do poorly, and she exceeded that, one might think that you mean she did well, right? Acceptable

No.
If I expect my child will bring home an F and he brings home a D-....I don't consider him doing well. To me that would not be good.
Again, that is why I said a little better.
She went from incompetent to slightly less incompetent.  An  F to a D-

This is getting old.

You demand that I answer questions, but you don't demand that of yourself, I see.

O.K., if I missed the word little, my bad. However, she had a positive effect on you as she improved her standing as a candidate to you personally. So whatever she did or said durring the debate, good or bad, factually correct or not, she affected you in a positive way. What gave you this potive impression of her durring the debate? So some people must consider other things when watching a debate in addition to logic and reason, or facts in general. How those other things rank in importance differs per the individual.

O.K., now we are on the same page with the term well. I understand your meaning in your post.

Define old. 5 days is old, 2 threads are old, McCain is old....what exactly is old in Picks dictionary? ;D ;D

So some people must consider other things when watching a debate in addition to logic and reason, or facts in general. How those other things rank in importance differs per the individual.

Are you trying to say:

Those other things ranked so high in importance to you that you called it a draw?

Logic ,reason and facts were pushed so far aside it allowed you to considered her equal to Biden?

To put it another way.

You like Biden...your for Biden. You think Biden won on facts. You think he won logically. He wins on foreign affairs, foreign policy ...He wins on content.

But somehow she trumped all that with those "other things"?

No. I'm first, trying to get you and I to agree that logic and reason are not the only criteria for judging debates. I'm guessing, but truth should and probably is the most important, followed by facts, then whatever.  But there are many things that determine who wins a debate that vary quite a bit. It's not a matter of what you put aside at all. Nothing should be put aside if it's important to you.

Your trying to change the subject. Answer the questions I ask. Especially, is it illogical for me to consider the fact that Palin did better than expected? Are there more than logic to consider when judging a debate? Read the post, dissect it and answer the questions I ask. Can you do that?
First, think, then post. I shouldn't have to respond to the same post multiple times because you edited it.

Yes, I like Biden. The things you mentioned are true. But I don't agree with some of his votes in the senate. Your looking at the small picture. Look at the big one. I don't agree with everything Biden likes.
If it wasn't these other things that made you call it a draw....then what things did?

Checkmate!

;D ;D ;D
First, this isn't a game. Second, you really need to grow up, mature as a adult.

"You like Biden...your for Biden. You think Biden won on facts. You think he won logically. He wins on foreign affairs, foreign policy ...He wins on content."

"But somehow she trumped all that with those "other things"?"

Absolutely not. She didn't trump anything. I called it a draw, in no way does that suggest she WON the debate, which I've made perfectly clear.

She won on some aspects of the debate and lost on others.

You can declare yourself a win if you'd like, but get your facts straight in the process. I have no desire to win or lose, only learn. I guess I need to dismiss your post and learn from Trip, Charger, and Fingers. I'm not learning anything from you except that your childish in your debate style, discussions of politics.

I forgot to mention that I watched an interview that hannity did with rudy Guiliani minutes after the debate.  that was so  embarrasing.  Sean Hannity is not really credible anymore.. he is a joke.

He immediatley said that Palin absolutely killed it and won.. it makes him look so stupid to make comments like that.  looking scared to me.

the icing on the cake was guiliani that said she was so good, probably the best debate victory in the history of the vp debates...  give me a freakin break

Why wouldn't he do this?  I know several people that COMPLETELY believe what they said must be true...  Remember, there's a lot of robots out there.  ;)

Of course Hannity likes her, they're equally disgusting.  Well actually she's worse 'cause heez just an entertainer not in charge of anything but his own slimy self image.
