If the tea party was treated like the freedom riders were, I can only imagine the reaction of the general public.

How about if a tea party leader was killed by police while in bed like a black panther?

I don't think the comparison is entirely valid.

Both would behave like there is some long standing historical grievance to settle.
for the tea party it is since Jan 2009,
for a black tea party - it would be centuries.
