Is this place just dead now that the election is over? Do we have nothing political to talk about?
Do we support the idea of India being able to defend itself the way we would in response to the horrible terrorist attacks in Mumbai? Apparently what's good for us isn't okay for them.
Our government needs to step in and say, "look, Pakistan...you need to find and prosecute these people and anyone connected to it, because if you don't you've got a billion Indians who are going to fuck your shit up" It mostly has, but I don't think it's pushing hard enough.
I'm getting pretty sick of Pakistan. I'd actually be more fond of blowing their asses up than Iran (not that I really approve of either).
This is why we need to figure out what to do with Afghanistan and secure that place so our troops aren't stuck there - the biggest problem (according to NBC News' David Engel) is the relative security our supply lines to Afghanistan have enjoyed with Pakistani help and the tough realization that if war happens with India, that protection would be gone.
Of course, we didn't attack Saudi Arabia even though most of the hijackers were from there, so I suppose India wouldn't attack Pakistan even though ALL the gunmen were from there.
This is yet another example of pointless tribalism, nationalism, and religious disagreement causing mass destruction.
When will humankind grow up?

When will humankind grow up? I don't think that's going to happen before we eliminate ourselves.
However, the fact that both Pakistan and India are nuclear states makes a hell of a big difference, I think. The idea of India "going after" Pakistan to wipe out terrorists... means WWIII. It's not Iraq, or Afghanistan. It's more like the US invading Russia.
Despite the clumsiness of what I was writing in regards to India and Pakistan, I agree with you...and I've often wondered (being the science dork I am) what the environmental implications would be of a nuclear war between those two, since their nuclear arsenals aren't of the size and scope of ours or Russia's, and probably wouldn't result in global destruction.
I think I'd just be happy to be on this side of the world if that happened. Talk about a disaster...
But you're probably right, we won't grow up because we can't. The pull of "the big stupid" and its promises of eternity are too strong...

Yep, bad stuff Trip!
But don't expect Pakistan to go after anyone. They have a bunch of terrorist over their, and possibly Osama, and they don't do shit about it.
Now add the Israel mess to the equation, and things are broiling quite well over there. Won't be long now...
I actually think Isreal may have good reason this time.
Maybe, just maybe, the entire middle east will be destroyed, including Isreal, and war and all this fucking fighting and killing will be over for good. ;) I'm fucking sick of hearing about the fucking idiots. Seems war and killing is all they know how to do. And they do a shitty job of that as well.

...for WWIII??? Hmmm, seems I remember someone being ridiculed at "the Hole" for bringing this very subject up. :-/ Like I said, it will begin in the Middle East... ;)

A WWIII needs big powers to go to war
The middle east has always been the expected obvious flashpoint for decades.
But I can't see big powers starting a fight with each other over it directly.
The India/Pakistan situation is a more likely scenario at the moment - one that could bring US,Russia and China into conflict directly.
Nukes would likely get thrown around in a subcontinent war and events then run out of control.
Which would involve the middle east but also the east and north of the region as well.
In the midst of an economic crisis - financial, economic and energy/resource warfare would kick off.
Which could easily escalate into a global WWIII.
There are a huge confluence of flashpoints, all related to different degrees and in a trigger happy fine balance.
Israel attacking Gaza could trigger things - but not the direct cause any more than the match is the cause for the explosion.
When asked what kind of weapons World War III would be fought with, Einstein responded, I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
(I'm going to stockpile the best sticks and stones I can find! ;) :D )

This is what I'm talking about... :-/

Do baseball bats represent a stick? And does lead count as a stone? ;D
