Where is Obama's brains? No criticism over any of these no tax paying shitheads he's chosen? Do I need to inform him of the power of research? ;D

He said he screwed up and they missed the tax things (incidentally, both EXTREMELY HARD THINGS TO RESEARCH).
What more do you want? What else can he do? I'm sure he's learned from his mistake - smart people do that.
Incidentally, you know how fucked we'd be with McCain right now? He'd be giving tax breaks to all the rich thieves who have made off with Americans' money and provided no structure of oversight.
Tripper
The man is not responsible for doing all of his appointments' taxes. Hey, one thing that's obvious, there are a LOT of ways to fuck up on your taxes. I sweat every time I mail mine off, and I get them professionally prepared.
What pisses me off more than a couple of appointments with chowdered taxes, is, why is Obama still appointing Republicans? Seems to me that his efforts to be bipartisan, or "post-partisan" are not getting him jack shit. He appoints three Republicans to his cabinet, and for that, he is still getting raked over the coals by the Limbaughs of the world. But the ultimate ignomy to me is that, after going and personally meeting with Congressional Republicans, pushing his new stimulus package, not a single Republican in the house voted for his stimulus package. At that point, I would have said "fuck 'em." He has way more political capital than anyone else who's won the office in years. A higher margin of victory than Bush, Clinton, or Bush2. The highest popularity since Kennedy. He won with a higher popular vote percentage than Reagan. He needs to throw those Republican scumbags under the bus, where they deserve to be, and get on with leading the country away from their ignorance and bullshit.
It's a cock up, no doubt about that, but a minor one.
The power of research, the Obama team will have been vetting appointees as best they can, and making judgements (guesses) as to potential skeletons in the cupboard.
They can't simply research for information about personal finances and taxation without the legitimate authority to access the records.
If they did, that would be a huge scandal.
Even as president he still doesn't have the legal powers to obtain this kind of information without starting a legal process off - i.e. ordering an judicial investigation
As president he will have more power to get at this information informally - through the "nod and wink" culture of taking advice from people in the know in branches of the government bureaucracy.
In the old days a president might call Hoover for advice (if they thought they could trust him to be impartial - lol), but that sort of system is out of favour these days. :)
Raises an interesting question though - how can an incoming administration vet itself, when it doesn't have even the informal power to do so.
Once they taken over reins of power and have the informal power, it is still new administration - the informal sources are lower level ones and appointed under the previous administration.
It is all so steeped in politics, a vipers nest, can you trust the source of the information, they might Yay or Nay for their own ends.
i.e. We don't want that guy for ultimate Boss, let's allude to some tax problem he may have.
These people haven't exactly committed criminal tax frauds, a pay up and move on scenario that wouldn't affect you in any other job.
It is all about that most rarefied of politics about ideals an standards of public duty.
i.e. An argument about the virginity of the new brides.
They failed it - big fucking deal.
Biggest mistake I have seen so far with Obama is that his early announcements have sent a message that the US is heading down a protectionist route.
You may even like it, most people do - it is a populist move, but it is a populist move everywhere including Europe and Asia.
He has backtracked a bit, but it was a big mistake.
He has inadvertently given a green light for governments all over the world to enact similar measures and dress it up as retaliation.
Unless the world manages to resurrect some kind of GATT agreement in April, then things look pretty bleak on a trade war breaking out.
Which would very likely spin the world into depression.
Well, maybe it's just to hard to pay taxes when you make so much money. ;D

Craig had a similar problem, which would have caused him to drop out in the same situation.
Doesn't make him a bad person. :)
If Hook was in the running for a position - would his tax affairs live up to the extra scrutiny ?

Of course. I've never had a tax issue of any kind. Period. I don't make enough money to cheat on my taxes, or try anyway. I couldn't afford representation to start with. So, I just go by the books. Less problems. ;D
And it doesn't matter if they are bad people or not. Obama wants clean politicians. Kinda looks bad when these no tax paying people are give positions involving money. ;D
The main difference is that they are politicians. That makes them bad people. ;) :D
If you eliminate from consideration all the people who others are willing to pay lots of money for their ideas, you are left with... a bunch of people who no one considers smart enough to pay lots of money for their ideas.
At this juncture, I'll take the smart guys. We can use them.
Well, Obama's just getting started and I'm already getting nervous. He's got that deer in the headlights look going on.
