I've noticed that AVG is advertising the new version of their a/v program, version 8.5, every now and then with that little pop up window. They say you absolutely must upgrade by April 30th, or the world will stop rotating on its axis. Well no, but they do make it sound pretty important. ::) ;D

Anyway, I was wondering: is this going to be a regular upgrade, or will it be a brand new install. And if it's a new install, will the old batch file that TigerBill (I think it was him) made work on it? Or would a new one have to be made? Just wondering...

I really like how AVG is now, and so I hope any upgrade will be a very smooth transition and continue working like it does currently.

Thanks, guys.
Not me....
I wrote TweakWizard for the FlexIII and some SysEx for the FCB1010, but nothing for AVG. Sorry.
It was a new install for me but, at least, it was still free!  :)

It's alright. Hmm, I wonder who it was then? It basically removed that feature that scanned pages before they loaded, and slowed down web browsing as a result. It was an awesome tweak, imo. Who could've written it then? I thought it was a "Bill" or "Craig" something...

That's my favourite price! 8-)
You know, you can disable that feature on your own... no script required.  I think JonG did write a script that removed the link scanner during the install... but if you select "custom" on the install, you can disable it yourself...

I think I do remember some people mentioning that. But didn't they say they were having problems with it where link scanner installed anyway, despite selecting not to have it installed? And so, that batch file was written just to make it really simple for anyone who didn't want link scanner, if I remember correctly.

In any case, does disabling it yourself through the custom install do exactly what the batch file did, and install AVG 8.5 as if link scanner was never a part of it?

By the way, for charger and anyone else who has an HDTV: if you guys are having a hard time setting up the colours to look exactly how you like, I found a link that might help you guys with that a few weeks back. It's http://www.cnet.com/1990-7874_1-5108543-1.html . And for even more help and info about HDTV's, here's the link to the main page where I got that previous link from: http://www.cnet.com/hdtv-world/?tag=arw . Hope it helps...
I originally created the following script (place it inside a batch file) when AVG first introduced the link scanner as they did not include any way of not installing at that time other than from the commandline.

avg_free_stf_en_8_100a1295.exe /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSurf /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSearch

However, you can now select which bits you want installed using the AVG installer so the batch file script should no longer be needed.
