Your IPOD? Are you using a line out to listen to it through speakers or headphones? Or, the headphone jack?
Neither.  All of mine dock which uses the same connector that supplies power to the iPOD.
O.K. That's actually using the line out ability of the ipod. I think. That should be a much cleaner, less distortion, way of listening to the ipod. Compared to hooking up to the headphone jack. That may make a difference in sound quality.

I just ordered one of these to be able to use the line out for different purposes, mainly to clean up the signal and hopefully get a decent sound from my iphone.

Just trying to figure out why you think this thing sounds so good. Maybe this will improve the sound some. I love the ipod on my phone, the way it works and convience of having music on my phone. I just wish it sounded decent.

Stop listening to J-o-e-y's greatest hits then!  ;D
;D ;D

Either that or quit listening to my self attempt to play. ;D ;D
Well, I bought a Apple line out mini dock. Still can't get close to my little Cowon MP3 player for quality sound. The Cowon doesn't even have a line out and sounds better than my Iphone. That really sucks. Sure would be nice to listen to music, plus all the other shit you can do with an Iphone. Goddamn, Apple needs to work on the sound issue. Mostly used headphone to compare. That's what I'm interested in. A mixer would fix the sound somewhat through speakers. Quality sound and good clean signals must be an after thought for Apple. Shame.

Apple is like a good looking chick without a brain. ;D Shit looks good, operates good, but then you hear it....oh shit! ;D
Maybe they give the malfunctioning units to the Southern red necks thinking they won't notice?  NO ONE that has listened to any of my four iPOD's has said anything but good things about them.  Comments like "Wow! That sounds great!" are very common.

Of course, maybe YOU just have more discriminating ears than anyone I know. ;)   Have you tried the on-board EQ and other settings?

As I've said, listening to the thing through headphones is what I'm interested in. Could be your friends are still listening to AM radio. Doesn't really take a lot to impress the average listener. Most of them don't even know what a studio monitor is. They are incredible, imo.

I don't know what "other settings" your referring to. I've found that turning the EQ completely off cleans up the sound a bit. Sounds the best, quality wise. Listening through the line out does cut way down on distortion. Still, sounds pretty sad for a $300 device. (Iphone)

Not to mention I have a $250 headphone Amp and $100 Grado si80 headphones as well as a pair of AKG 240s.

Maybe if I had a pair of $5oo headphones it would equal my $100 Cowon player with just the headphones mentioned. ;D
Now that I played with the EQ settings a little to tailor them to my headphones, my iPhone sounds great with both my Sony MDR-7506s and my M-Audio IE-10s.

So methinks your unit is defective.
